Chapter 1
Blackridge Academy never felt like a school.
It felt like a sealed box pretending to be education.
Surrounded by thick forest and iron gates that never fully opened unless authorized, students learned quickly that freedom was a privilege, not a right.
The morning of the first death began like any other.
Cold air. Grey skies. Silent corridors.
Until the bell that marked first class never rang.
At exactly 7:10 a.m., the power flickered once across the entire campus.
Then stopped.
Phones went dead at the same time.
Not “no signal.”
Dead.
Like something had cut the entire school off from the world.
In Dormitory B, Maya Carter stood frozen in front of her mirror, toothbrush still in her hand.
“Tell me I’m not the only one,” she whispered to her roommate.
Her roommate didn’t answer.
Because she wasn’t in the room anymore.
Across campus, chaos started quietly—confusion first, then irritation, then panic.
But it wasn’t until the body was found that everything shifted.
Lying at the base of the east stairwell was Daniel Reeves, a senior known for controlling half the student council like a private empire.
At first, people said it was an accident.
Then they saw the message.
Written on the wall above him in black ink:
“YOU ALL WATCHED.”
No one knew who found it first.
No one admitted it out loud.
But everyone read it.
By midday, teachers were missing.
By evening, the gates wouldn’t open—even manually.
And by nightfall, the school speakers crackled to life.
Just once.
A distorted voice, calm and almost bored:
“Class is still in session.”
Then silence again.
That was the moment everyone understood—
Blackridge Academy was no longer a school.
It was something else now.
And whatever was inside with them…
was not done yet.
