Chapter 1
**"Please, d-don't die!"**
What was supposed to be a harmless joke led to the death of Sayge More, a newly recruited football player on Laine Montgomery's team. Inviting Sayge to a cabin, getting him drunk, and stealing his first kiss wasn't exactly part of the plan. They just wanted to have fun—not kill the kid.
When a few team members decide to pretend to be kidnappers and stage a fake abduction, the last thing they expect is for Sayge to fall and hit his head. Certain he's dead, Laine and his friends carefully bury the body. Out of sight, out of mind... right?
Wrong.
Laine can't seem to get Sayge out of his head. Things only get worse when the group makes a pact: never tell anyone what happened until the day they die.
Three years later, Laine is stunned when there's a knock at his door.
Standing on his porch is Sayge.
Half-dressed, soaked from the rain, and visibly terrified, Sayge begs for help. Blood trickles from a wound on his head, but otherwise he appears unharmed.
"Please help me!"
He's alive?
But how is that possible?
Laine welcomes him inside, despite nothing making sense. He cleans Sayge's wound and helps him get settled while Sayge explains that he can't remember what happened to him. But Laine and his friends remember.
Every detail.
How can Laine help someone who's supposed to be dead? Even worse, how can he fall for someone whose heart no longer beats?
Desperate for answers, Laine begins searching for the truth behind Sayge's impossible return while giving him the love, care, and attention that somehow keeps him alive.
