The wind whistled through the trees, chilling the air. Andromeda Aragante pulled the collar of her jacket up and around her neck, to give her some extra warmth. This particular Spring day was a bit chilly.
She heard footsteps from behind her; they seemed to be closing in. She picked up her pace, looking around for a cafe to enter if the need arose. Her thoughts began to race between wishing she had either stayed home today, or drove her car to do her shopping.
But she was actually enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, until the steps behind her had distracted her solitude.
She found a cafe, hurried up the steps, and pulled on the door latch, attempting to open the door.
She felt a hand on her shoulder that startled her, as a voice called out “Andie!! Is that you, Andie?”
The voice sounded slightly familiar. She turned around to see the handsome dark haired face, with the piercing blue eyes. Suddenly she felt weak at the knees. The handsome man put his strong arms around her tiny waist and hugged her tightly.
“It’s been too long” he sighed.
“Well, it was your idea to move on.”
She reluctantly hugged him back. She couldn’t help herself; the all too familiar scent of his intoxicating cologne gave her a rise. Sandalwood and vetiver. Heady. Sexual.
She flashed back to so many good memories. She steeled herself against him, then finally pulled away.
“You’ve been gone for a year. And you just scared the living daylights out of me! What the hell is wrong with you?”
His eyes held her gaze. She wanted to look away, but she was mesmerized.
“I know, Andie, and I’m sorry to have left so abruptly, but I had to get away. I didn’t mean to sneak up on you either. I didn’t realize I was doing it. I saw you and just had to hug you again. ”
“You left me behind. You dumped my ass for no reason. I’ve moved on. The end.” she said, matter of factly.
“I wouldn’t blame you if you have moved on, but I’d hoped you wouldn’t. It can’t be the end for us. ” He looked disappointed.
“What did you expect me to do, Marco? Never heard a word from you for a year, after your impromptu non-goodbye. Do you think I sat around and felt sorry for myself? You’re not the only show in town, you know.”
Jolted by her caustic words, he realized in that moment that she hadn’t waited for him, that she had, in fact, moved on to someone new.
He gathered his composure, asking if she’d consider having coffee with him, since they were at the cafe.
“Sure, alright, we may as well, since we’re already here.” She wanted coffee; that was all. She would pay for her own order.
They found a table; the gentleman pulled out a chair for his former lady as they sat down together. Marco couldn’t take his eyes off of Andromeda, who felt uncomfortable, feeling both flattered and slightly angry at the same time. He was regretting having left her, and she could sense that.
The waitress arrived to take their order.
Marco ordered an espresso and his favorite cream puff to go with it.
“I’ll have my favorite organic, fresh ground Peruvian blend, please. And a bowl of freshly cut mixed fruits in season.”
“Oh... and separate checks please.” Andromeda smiled at the slightly perturbed waitress.
“Absolutely not! One check, please.”
“Which is it?” The waitress stared impatiently.
“Separate checks, please.” Andromeda raised her eyebrows at her former lover. She needed nothing from Marco, charming as he was.
The waitress was off to get their orders.
Andromeda removed her jacket and placed it around the back of her chair. She was already regretting her decision to have coffee with Marco. It felt awkward. But she was here, so she decided to make the best of the situation.
She wore a pale green dress, which showcased a tall and lithe, well cared for body. Her auburn curls cascaded down her back. Her face was beautifully oval shaped, and her natural makeup looked impeccable as always.
Her former lover was the perfect specimen of a sexual fantasy man. Very tall, muscular chest with strong arms to match, a series of ripped abs that trailed into a V that led inevitably into the perfectly formed example of manhood that you would ever see. His ass was sculpted and luscious, with firm cheeks begging to be taken to ecstasy.
Marco paid little attention to her seeming discomfort with his presence. He admired her timeless beauty and relished the thought of them getting together again. He’d find a way to make her come around again.
Andromeda’s phone rang. “I have to take this.” She got up and walked away. His eyes followed her every movement.
“Yes, we’re still on for tonight. I can’t wait to see you. I stopped at the coffee shop on my way home. Okay, I’ll see you then.”
Andromeda casually walked back to her table, where Marco was waiting. “No trouble, I hope.”
“For fucks sake, Marco, why would there be trouble? All I did was take a phone call. You know, I do have a life, and a career, and friends.” She was beginning to regret sitting down with him.
“Fair enough. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be presumptuous.”
“Then don’t be.” She looked past him once she sat back down. As long as she stayed clear of those gorgeous gazing eyes, she knew she’d be fine.
Andromeda took note of her surroundings. The cafe was filled with interesting people. Most of them were in their 20s and 30s, drinking their usual lattes, with a sprinkling in of extremely good looking men in business suits and ties, reading from their newspapers or their iPads. There was also a group of very stylish, pretty women, all of them friends who met once a week for the best coffee and pastries that the town had to offer, along with a side of the latest gossip. It was obvious that they looked forward to this day to dress up a bit more than usual.

She turned her attentions back to Marco. He was so handsome; tall and tanned, still with those gorgeous icy blue eyes that pierced right through her. She caught herself staring into his eyes again, and quickly looked away.
“So how long are you planning to stay this time, Marco?”
“My position has been transferred back here, Andie, to Center City; it’s likely permanent. My company made me a very lucrative offer I couldn’t refuse.”
He continued.
“I just purchased my very first home, so I’m excited to put down roots. That means I’m back for good, and I hoped we’d be able to pick up where we left off again.”
Incredulous!
“No. I‘ve already told you. I’m with someone else now.”
“But we were so good together, Andie. Surely you haven’t forgotten all those special moments.”
Oh, she remembered them well. The two of them were fire together. He took her breath away. She felt she couldn’t live without him, until he walked out without giving her a reason. The pain and angst of having her lover walk out the door had nearly destroyed her. But she’d picked herself up and moved on.
“Marco, I already told you, there is no “us.” I’ve met another man who I really like, and he feels the same way about me.”
“Oh.”
The waitress arrived with their orders, giving Marco the once over. He uncomfortably shifted himself in his chair. He couldn’t quite place her, but was sure he knew her from somewhere.
Andromeda and Marco sipped their coffee and made small talk. She found herself impressed that he had decided to put down roots and stay in one place. Maybe he was changing. Time would tell. Still, she had a date to get ready for, and she was determined to look her best for her new man. She deserved to have some real fun, with a man who appreciated her, and who didn’t toy with her emotions.
