Chapter 1

Darlene shut the door of her pink SUV as she stepped out of it, bag in one hand and a cup of iced Americano in the other. Everything felt great; she finally go a job and one as a secretary in one of the biggest companies in the united states, Solas Corp.

If things went as planned, she'd offer the cuppf coffee to her superior and they'd be all buddy-buddy by the end of the week.

'Alrighty Darlene! Let's go secure our position' she cheered, fist pumping the air with the hand holding her bag.

‎"I'm sorry Miss Reyes but I find your attempt at currying favour pathetic. Please go back to your post outside my office" the deep authoritative voice that seemed to have everyone intoxicated resounded in the grand office of the company's CEO. Darlene blinked as she found herself standing in front of CEO Matthew Greeve's office, coffee still in hand as her perfect plan came crashing down.

‎'Por dios! what would it take for him to just accept the drink?! there was also the option of turning it down politely if he really didn't want it, did he have to be such a grinch about it?!' she ranted in her mind, head steaming as she glared at the door she had just exited.

‎It was not until the sound of her telephone ringing echoed in the spacious room that served as both her office and the reception room for the CEO's guests that she rushed back to her desk.

‎"This is Darlene, Solas Corp secretary speaking how may I help you?" she spoke immediately entering work mode. Her shoulders stiffened slightly as she listened to the person on the other side responding when necessary and jotting down all she needed to write.

‎By the end of the call, she was mentally exhausted and finding it hard to do her job considering she had to go back to the office she had just been chased out of and act like nothing happened.‎ Why? because she was a professional.

‎Sucking in a deep breath, Darlene prepared her mind to confront the dragon ahead of her.‎

"Mr Greeve?" she called out as she pushed open the door after knocking twice and momentarily froze when Mathew's piercing green eyes locked on her .

‎"A call just came in for you from one-" Darlene paused as she lifted her note pad to look over her jots again.

‎"Mrs Greeve... she's demanding you give her an audience" she completed, implication of the call finally dawning on her.

‎'What the hell?! is this cold man really married?!' she exclaimed in her mind, eyes involuntarily going to her boss's left hand and widening in shock when she noticed the shining gold band on his ring finger.

‎'Damn, woman must be made of steel'

‎"Miss Reyes!" the sudden rise in Matthew's voice finally snapped Darlene out of her thoughts and colour filled her cheeks out of embarrassment when she realized she had been lost in her thoughts once again.‎ She quickly looked up to meet his disappointed gaze, breath stuttering as she tried to recall what he was saying before her train of thoughts interrupted him.

‎"I'm sorry, what did you say sir?" she asked feeling even more embarrassed by the silence that stretched between them as Matthew simply stared at her not responding immediately.

‎"I said to call back and schedule an appointment with her for 7pm tonight. I won't see her any other time" he finally spoke granting instant relief to Darlene who was itching to get out of there.

‎"Of course! I'll do that right away!" she exclaimed turning around to leave and pausing with her hand on the door knob when she heard her name called again.

‎"Ensure to keep your thoughts to yourself next time, they're very distracting and unnecessary" Matthew's deep monotone voice hit harder than the words themselves and Darlene couldn't help the constant blush that followed her for the rest of the day .
