Story Notes

The four stories in this collection were originally published on kiralorneromance.com, written simply because I wanted to write them. They’re meant to be fun, mostly lighthearted explorations of the strange, messy, wonderful ways people find each other and decide to stay.

A few characters carry the weight of past decisions or mistakes they’re still working through, that’s just part of being a person, but you won’t find anything dark, violent, or related to abuse here. These are stories about connection, not pain.

I hope you enjoy spending time with them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Summary

Amassed collects Kira Lorne's shorter stories. The ones too short for a novel and too good to leave in a drawer. All the comedy, quirk, reality, and just enough heat that Kira writes into everything she touches. Four stories. Four messes. Funny when it shouldn't be. Tender when you least expect it. Negative Space — A celebrated artist at the peak of her career meets a pipeline engineer from Idaho who doesn't know a single thing about art and somehow says the most honest thing anyone has ever said to her. The Roommate Clause — Two heartbroken friends move in together and write the rules. No flirting. No feelings. No sex. The clause held up beautifully. Right up until it didn't. Three's a Tease — Evie and Rolo have a great thing. Then Wynn shows up with nowhere to go and fits into their life like she was always supposed to be there. The couch was temporary. Nothing else was. What We Make of the Mess — Sloan is tired, broke, and fresh out of faith in pretty much everything. Rick is her coworker, her shoulder, and apparently her future. She didn't plan any of this. The four stories tucked inside this collection all started life on kiralorneromance.com, written one messy, caffeinated burst at a time because I couldn’t stop thinking about the people in them. They’re all about the same thing, really: the weird, wonderful, completely unpredictable ways two people end up finding each other.

A gallery opening that goes nowhere near the way either person expects. A roommate situation that was never supposed to mean anything. A friendship that quietly tips into something else entirely. A mess, literally, that somehow turns into the start of everything. None of these people went looking for love in the obvious places. They just sort of... tripped into it.
