Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

The sun was just beginning to rise over the river when Amara Johnson stepped out of her family home. The morning air was cool, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees that lined the dusty village road.

She paused for a moment and looked back at the small house where she had spent her entire life. Her mother stood at the doorway, smiling through tears.

“Take care of yourself, Amara,” her mother said softly.

“I will, Mama,” Amara replied, forcing a smile.

Today was the day she had been dreaming about for years. An opportunity awaited her in the city—a chance to build a better future and finally achieve her goals.

With a small travel bag hanging from her shoulder, she walked toward the river dock. Excitement and nervousness battled inside her heart.

When she arrived, the ferry was already preparing to leave. Passengers hurried aboard while crew members loaded supplies.

Amara purchased her ticket and stepped onto the vessel. As the ferry slowly pulled away from the dock, she watched her village disappear into the distance.

She wondered what the future held.

Hours passed peacefully. The river sparkled beneath the bright afternoon sun, and passengers chatted happily among themselves.

Dark clouds began gathering on the horizon.

“This storm doesn’t look good,” he muttered.

Amara felt a strange chill run down her spine.

Within minutes, the peaceful journey became unsettling. The ferry rocked gently as waves began to rise.

Thunder rumbled in the distance.

The captain ordered everyone to remain calm, but fear slowly spread among the passengers.

Amara gripped the railing tightly as the first drops of rain fell from the darkening sky.

She had no idea that before the day was over, she would be fighting for her life.
