Chapter 1: The Theft and The Threat

🖤 MEET THE CHARACTERS 🖤

✨ Chloe (The Heroine)

Age: 22

Appearance: Naturally stunning with long, glossy dark hair, expressive brown eyes, and a bright, charming smile.

Who she is: A hard-working, independent culinary student who dreams of opening her own luxury bakery in Manhattan. She is sweet and deeply caring, but she has a fierce, sarcastic tongue and a stubborn backbone that refuses to bow down to wealth.

Her Role: After her brother steals millions from a corporate giant, she is forced to sign a one-year marriage contract to protect him. She expects to live in a miserable cage, but her playful bickering completely upends the billionaire’s cold world.

💼 Ethan Vance (The Male Lead)

Age: 27

Appearance: Toweringly tall, broad-shouldered, and intensely muscular. He has a sharp, ruthless jawline covered in a dark shadow of stubble, mesmerizing dark eyes, and a commanding, powerful presence.

Who he is: The cold-blooded, workaholic billionaire CEO of Vance Global. He has a dark past, a guarded heart, and firmly believes that every single person in the world can be bought with a price—until he meets Chloe.

His Role: A highly dominant, fiercely possessive alpha who initially demands total control over his contract bride. However, her sharp wit and independent spirit completely shatter his defenses, turning his coldness into an absolute frenzy of protective doting and raw obsession.

The rain in Manhattan didn’t just fall; it crashed against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of Vance Global Headquarters. I stood in the center of the massive, ultra-luxurious penthouse office, my hands clenching into tight fists inside the pockets of my worn-out denim jacket. My breathing was shallow, ragged, and rapid as I looked at the man sitting behind the massive obsidian desk. Ethan Vance. The most powerful, cold-blooded billionaire in the city. He didn’t look at me immediately. He was casually signing a stack of multi-million dollar contracts, his broad shoulders moving smoothly beneath his tailored black suit jacket. His sharp, ruthless jawline was covered in a dark shadow of stubble, and his piercing dark eyes radiated a lethal authority that turned my blood to ice. The sheer physical presence of his muscular frame cut off all the air in the room, smelling of expensive cedarwood cologne, rich tobacco, and absolute power.

“Your brother is a pathetic little thief, Chloe,” Ethan growled low, his deep, gravelly voice a rough purr that sent a sudden, traitorous wave of fear straight down to my stomach. He set his gold pen down with a loud, dangerous click and slowly leaned back in his leather chair, locking his dark eyes directly onto my pale face. “Leo stole five million dollars from my private offshore accounts to pay off his gambling debts. He thought he could run, but my security teams found him at the airport an hour ago.”

“Please,” I whispered, my voice cracking as a wave of bitter anger washed over my panic. I took a sharp step forward, refusing to let this arrogant billionaire see me cower. “Leo is an idiot, but he doesn’t have that kind of money. If you send him to prison, he will die. Just give me time. I will work three jobs, I will sell everything I own, and I will pay you back every single cent.”

Ethan let out a low, mocking chuckle that vibrated deep within his broad chest. He stood up slowly, his towering, massive frame completely cutting off the bright city lights behind him, casting me in his giant shadow. He walked around the desk, his heavy leather shoes clicking sharply against the polished marble floorboards. He stopped just inches from me, the intense warmth radiating off his bare collarbone suffocating my logic. “Five million dollars would take you three lifetimes to earn on a culinary student’s salary, sweetheart,” Ethan hissed, his dark eyes narrowing into an aggressive, predatory stare as his gaze dragged slowly down my bare neck, tracing my lips with a sudden wave of raw, possessive hunger. He reached out, his large, warm hand grabbing my jaw fiercely, his fingers digging into my skin, forcing my head back so I had to look straight into his eyes. “I don’t want your pennies, Chloe. And I sure as hell don’t have the patience to wait for a thief.”

“Then what the fuck do you want from me?” I screamed right into his face, my small hands slamming hard against his solid, rock-hard chest, trying to twist violently to break free from his bruising grip. “Put him in jail then! But get your hands off me, you psycho!”

Ethan’s jaw clenched so tightly the muscles in his neck turned to solid stone, a small vein throbbing violently in his temple. He didn’t loosen his grip on my jaw. Instead, he pulled my lower body flush against his hard, muscular thighs, locking me down completely beneath his weight. “I want a wife,” Ethan whispered fiercely, his hot breath fanning over my mouth, sending a violent jolt of electricity straight down to my spine. “The board of directors is forcing me to secure a stable image for the upcoming public merger. You are going to sign a one-year forced marriage contract, Chloe. You will live in my penthouse, you will share my bed, and you will play the part of my perfect bride in front of the media. If you sign the paper, your brother lives. If you refuse... I will ensure Leo disappears into a dark cell where no one will ever find his corpse. You have sixty seconds to choose your survival, bitch.”

I stared into his intense, unyielding eyes, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. I hated his wealth, I hated his brutal alpha dominance, but looking at his breathtakingly handsome, ruthless face, a dangerous, toxic desire exploded deep in my stomach. “Give me the fucking pen,” I breathed, my wide brown eyes flashing with a raw, defiant fire that made Ethan’s dark eyes flare with a sudden, overwhelming wave of unbridled possessive madness. Ethan let out a low, gravelly groan of pure, vulgar satisfaction, his thumb sliding up to press firmly against my bottom lip. “Good girl,” he murmured against my mouth, his touch leaving a trail of pure fire on my skin. “You belong to me now. Accept it.”

Adrienne: The plot was great. Different from most books I've read. The story was short and to the point. There was a bit of repetitive lines about Ryder looking good, but outside of that was a great read.
