Ginger
“Open this door!”
“Not until you take your meds!”
The door strained and creaked against the weight of his body, splintering at the hinges.
“We’re not finished, Ginger!”
“Once is enough for tonight, Callo!”
“I’m the doctor! And I’m telling you once is not enough! We have a legally binding agreement! Get out here, now!”
Callo was only aggressive when he didn’t take his medication. It wasn’t his fault. He was a sweet and gentle man before the brain tumour stole him.
You angered him.
No man wants to hear that during sex.
I leaned over the side of the tub and plugged the drain before turning on the faucet. When it was filled, I sprinkled some Epsom salts and climbed in. It wasn’t long before Callo ran out of energy, leaving me to soothe my sore vagina in peace.
I stared up through the skylight above the tub. It was a clear night with an abundance of bright stars lighting up the sky.
“Let’s sleep on the roof.”
“How do we get up there?”
“There’s a ladder.”
“Is it safe?”
“Of course.”
I climbed up the metal steps on the back of the trailer.
He followed behind with the comforter and pillows from his bed.
“I wish I could hold you in my arms forever, Ginger.”
“Me too, Theo.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sore?”
“A little.”
“Do you have any regrets?”
“Not at all. I’m glad you were my first.”
“It’s a beautiful night for lying under the stars, and I have the most gorgeous girl in the world in my arms. What more could a guy ask for?”
***
I opened my bedroom door slowly. The house was quiet. Callo must’ve finally taken his meds. He would be out for the night.
The kitchen was trashed. I shook my head as I grabbed the broom and began sweeping up the glass from the broken dishes.
“Who is Theo?”
The broom handle slipped from my fingers. I turned around slowly. Callo was standing in the doorway with a glass of whisky in his hand.
“You’re not supposed to be drinking, Callo.”
“You’re not supposed to scream out another man’s name while I’m fucking you, darling.”
“Why do you care as long as you get the job done?”
“Because we have an agreement, Ginger. You are not allowed to fuck other men.”
I sighed as I reached down to retrieve the broom. “I’m not sleeping with any other men.”
“Who is this Theo then? Just some random name you called out while I was giving you what you asked for?”
I entered the garage and emptied the dustpan of broken glass into a cardboard box that held the remnants of his last meltdown. When I returned to the kitchen, he was still standing in the same spot.
“Did you take your medication?”
“Yes. I’m sorry for my behaviour earlier, darling.”
“Why don’t we go into the living room and talk?”
“Very well.”
I poured myself a glass of water from the bar before curling up on the loveseat. Callo always sat in the antique Victorian armchair by the window. It was a hideous eyesore he had shipped from Scotland after his mother passed away. Our house was full of ugly furniture from the massive estate she left to her only son.
His house.
You’re just a guest.
Technically, you’re the live-in help.
“What’s troubling you, my sweet Ginger?”
“I think we need to revise the terms of our agreement.”
“Which parts?”
“You can’t skip your medication anymore.”
“If I take those drugs, there will be no sex happening.”
“When you don’t take them, you watch graphic porn and masturbate all over the house. I’m afraid you’re going to hurt someone.”
“I’m not allowed to drive, and it’s too far to walk to town. Who am I going to attack? A bear?”
“You’re going to need a nurse here soon. It’s getting to the point where it’s not really safe for you to be alone.”
“I’m fine. I don’t need a nurse yet.”
“If I don’t get pregnant this month, I think we should look into artificial insemination.”
“Absolutely not.”
“You were so out of control tonight, I had to lock myself in the bathroom.”
“I wasn’t out of control.”
“My bruised and swollen biscuit would suggest otherwise.”
“Stop using that silly nickname for your vagina. I hate it. And I highly doubt you’re bruised and swollen from a rough little romp in the sack.”
“Will you please consider artificial insemination?”
“Then I get nothing out of our arrangement.”
“You’re getting an heir. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
“An heir who I won’t live to see. I’ll be long gone before my son or daughter emerges from your biscuit.”
“We’ve been at this for six months, Callo. Clearly, there is a problem with one of us.”
“Perhaps you would have better luck with Theo’s sperm.”
His words cut through me like a serrated blade, ripping through my chest wall before it sliced my heart in two.
I shoved down the pain, masking my emotions behind a curtain of indifference. But Dr. Calloway Langford knew me too well. Even with declining cognition, he was still an expert at analyzing facial expressions and reading the minds of complete strangers. I didn’t stand a chance.
“Tell me about this Theo you mentioned while I was balls deep in your cunt tonight, darling.”
“Don’t use that word, please. It’s vulgar and offensive.”
“It’s offensive to me that you were fantasizing about another man while my cock was in your pussy.”
“Stop, Callo.”
“I can’t help it. You know that.”
“You can control it when you take your meds.”
“I took them after I fucked you. Perhaps they haven’t fully kicked in yet. They’re keeping me from bending you over the back of the couch, but they haven’t shut down the dirty thoughts. I’m still awake, aren’t I?”
“Will you please consider doing artificial insemination?”
“Your family had a cottage up here at one time,” he said.
“Yes, they did.”
“And that’s why you wanted to open your practice here.”
“It’s a good place to raise a child.”
“There’s plenty of cozy little towns in Ontario. Why this one, Ginger?”
“My family is here. I wanted Gill and Galaxy to work in my clinic. And I have a lot of happy memories here.”
“Do they include Theo?”
“No.”
“What am I, darling?”
“Right now, you’re an annoying pain in the ass.”
“What am I, Ginger?”
“I just told you.”
“I am an intelligent man. A profoundly gifted human. A world-renowned neurosurgeon. I graduated at the top of my class from Oxford. I’ve been successful at everything I’ve done in my life. Do you know how long it took me to figure out who Theo was?”
“Your genius brain has a tumour. It’s not functioning correctly.”
“Did you run into Theo today? Is that why you were thinking about him while you were in my bed, darling?”
“No. I haven’t seen Theo since we arrived in town.”
“But you were thinking about him. You can’t deny it. You cried out his name when you came on my cock.” He templed his long fingers under his chin, his piercing blue eyes holding me hostage. “Was Theo responsible for the pregnancy you terminated?”
“Yes.”

I've been looking forward to this one! ❤️
