Chapter 1 Dumped
Book 2
This book can be enjoyed as a standalone, but I recommend reading The Billionaire CEO’s Three Month Contract first for the best experience. :)
Chapter 1
“Dumped”
POV Alora
I sit in the most expensive, upscale restaurant in Vancouver with my head in my hands, bawling my eyes out.
I thought he was going to propose. I know it was only three months. Three amazing months, if you don’t count all the red flags and the breakups.
I even found an engagement ring among his personal items.
It didn’t have my name on it, but I had hope.
He had an actual list of the reasons I was not wife material.
Too kind.
Easily overwhelmed.
Too attractive.
Too clingy.
Too fat.
Too indecisive.
Too emotional.
Too jealous.
Terrible family background.
And to top it all off, not the girl I would ever dare bring home to my mother.
Then he just dropped the list on the table and walked away.
He even looked back a couple of times with a smile while I fell apart.
Strangers handed me Kleenex and informed me this wasn’t just the place to propose. It was also known as the place to get dumped.
Nobody wants to make a scene here and have their name all over the local papers.
Except for one woman, apparently.
“How dare you dump me here, expecting me not to make a scene!” the woman yells at the top of her lungs.
“Oh, Olivia, I expected a scene. I kind of look forward to your flair for the dramatic,” the man laughs.
“After six perfect months, you end us because your parents demand you claim a wife?” she hisses. “With your temper, your aggression, and the way you beat people senseless, no one is kind or stupid enough to marry you.”
“I already have someone in mind,” he says matter-of-factly.
“You’ve been dating someone behind my back, Orion? You’re a disgusting pig. I almost feel sorry for her. Once she sees the monster inside you, she’ll realize it’s already too late.”
I hear her dump something on him before storming off.
Which kind of makes me feel better, or at least distracts me from my own heartbreak.
I wipe my tears and grab a piece of fresh bread, determined to at least have a nice meal.
It takes months to get a reservation here. Unless you know the owner.
Unfortunately, my ex knew the owner.
I’m looking at the menu when a breathtaking man pulls out the chair in front of me.
“Oh, you can have the chair. I don’t need it,” I say.
He suddenly sits down.
“I think you’re at the wrong table. I’ve already been dumped.”
He looks at my list.
“Wow. Sounds like quite a jerk. He even left a forwarding address on your list to send the keys and your credit card to instead of just collecting them from you.”
“Maybe so I can get some of my things?”
“Oh, trust me, his locks were changed before you got here. This is just to stick another knife in a fresh wound.”
“You act like you know him.” I tilt my head.
“You’re not fat. I can practically see your bones,” he comments.
He snaps his fingers. A server appears, and he orders appetizers and wine.
I look at his shirt covered in wine.
“Hmm.”
“What?”
“You just dumped a girl, then joined my table. Interesting.”
“I’ve seen you around. You’re exactly what I’m looking for.”
“Did you not read everything on the list?”
“Oh, I just read it, and I heard the list out loud. I think everyone in the restaurant did.”
“Maybe you should read it again,” I tease.
“Listen, I need a wife for six months, and you’ve clearly been longing to have a husband. It would be like practice. I can teach you how to attract a good man before we’re done, and you can have your perfect little life with a husband and two and a half kids when the contract is over.”
“Contract?”
He slides a document my way.
“For six months, I’ll give you one million dollars. All you have to do is play the wife, have sex with me, and put up with the idea that I have mistresses.”
“I’m a virgin.”
His eyes light up.
“For two million dollars, and you don’t have to have sex with me if you don’t want to. But you have to share a bed to make it look real, attend family events, talk about kids we’ll never have, and try to refrain from killing my mistresses.”
I raise a brow when he says kill.
I wouldn’t hurt a fly.
My dragon would.
She’s super jealous.
I wonder if he knows that.
I look him over.
He has deep, icy blue eyes that could melt you like butter or turn you to stone. His sharp jaw, broad shoulders, and towering, muscular frame radiate power, while his devilishly handsome face conceals the soul of a predator.
I really want to say yes.
What have I got to lose?
And one million dollars?
Fuck, that’s a lot of money.
‘By all means, sign a contract with the devil. Who needs a soul anyway?’ Cassiopeia, my dragon hybrid wolf, chimes in.
I call her Cass for short.
I laugh out loud.
“What did your wolf say?” he asks.
“Hmm… she said, By all means, sign a contract with the devil.”
“Sarcasm?”
“Her middle name,” I giggle.
He smiles, and he has such a gorgeous smile.
“How do you feel about cats?” I ask.
“Don’t particularly like them.”
“I have a cat called Pink.”
“Why not Blue?”
“My cat Bleu died, and I thought Pink was the answer.”
“Do all your stories end sadly?” he asks.
“I’m afraid so.”
“Well, let’s hope this one doesn’t.”
He slides a pen toward me.
“What else do you require?” I ask, skimming through the contract.
“You work at the same company as me. There are eighty-one floors, so we won’t end up working on the same floor.”
“And?”
“It’s all there in the fine print.”
“Can I take it home and think about it?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“If you say no, I have a backup. I prefer it to be you.”
“Why me?”
“When we come here in six months to split up, I don’t think you’ll throw red wine on a five-thousand-dollar shirt. You’re too kind,” he says.
“And apparently stupid.”
“Alora, you are far from stupid. Stupid girls are boring. I like clingy, emotional, jealous, dramatic. It makes life more fun.”
I sigh.
“I guarantee that if you become my wife on paper for six months, Chad is going to be super jealous, and it would be the best revenge.”
“So you know my ex who just dumped me?”
“I know him well.”
He leans back in his chair.
“He’s my brother.”

How come we’re not leaving off where the first book ended, which is her being kidnapped, and replaced?!
