Chapter 1
It was raining heavily. Dark clouds completely covered the sky, making it seem as though night had fallen early. The clouds felt like an ominous sign,
warning of something terrible yet to come.
A car sped down the road, ignoring the dangerous weather. It raced through the rain as if the storm didn't matter at all, as if there was something far more important than safety.
She pressed the accelerator to its limit. She has mixed feelings Confusion, Betrayal, Heartbreak, Questions,
Her mind was filled with the events that had happened only a few minutes ago.
---
Yoon Ha-eun, twenty-eight years old, was a cheerful and lively woman. Her greatest wish in life was simple, to marry her fiancé and help take care of her father's company.
She had finished all her work for the day and was making her way toward her fiancé's office. In fact, she was almost skipping with excitement. She had worked extra hard just so she could spend a little more time with him.
Walking down the corridor, she finally reached his office. Her hand slowly moved towards the door knobs but the hand froze on the doorknob.
For a moment, shock overtook her. Then she quickly pushed away the absurd thoughts forming in her mind.
'
Sae-rin and Tae-kyung together?
Yah! are you crazy? How could you even think something like that?'
Forcing a smile, she opened the door slightly, then she stopped. The words she heard shattered her entire world.
"It's becoming difficult. I did so much to make his family arrange our marriage. I did everything I could to get close to him, but he's still not falling for me. I don't think I'll ever get his shares, even after marrying him."
"Don't talk nonsense," another voice replied. "We've come too far to back out now."
"I don't mean that. I'm talking about the possibility. What's the point of marrying him if he never transfers his shares to me?"
"He will. Eventually. Just focus on what you're doing."
Ha-eun felt as though her own ears had betrayed her. She had trusted them, believed in them more than anyone.
"No... it can't be. It can't be. Maybe I'm just imagining things because I'm tired..."
She stumbled backward, her entire body started trembling. Suddenly, the voices inside stopped. She heard footsteps approached the door.
She started panicking, she can't let them see her, she quickly turned and ran from there
--
Tears streamed down her face, It felt as though her eyes had become another storm, mourning the death of everything she believed in.
"I have to tell Min-joon."
She tightened her grip on the steering wheel.
"He has to know the truth."
---
Min-joon stopped his car in front of his house. He had just returned from another city after attending an important business meeting.
Stepping out of the car, he made his way inside.
Despite being incredibly wealthy, he and his father still lived in that small house. It wasn't because they couldn't afford something bigger.
The house was filled with precious memories they couldn't bring themselves to leave behind.
After the owner of those memories passed away, a cold wall slowly formed between father and son. It settled not only between them, but also within their hearts.
Since then, both of them had buried themselves in work.
Min-joon removed his shoes and entered the living room. As expected, he found his father sitting on the sofa, reading a book.
"Hello, Father," he greeted him formally.
"How did the meeting go?" his father asked without looking up.
"It went well."
"Did you have dinner?"
"Yes."
That was all.The conversation ended as quickly as it had begun.
Min-joon headed to his room. He placed his office bag on the table and sank into his chair.
Only then did he get time to check his phone. He had been busy all day and hadn't looked at it once.
He started checking all the calls he and suddenly a missed call caught his attention. It was Ha-eun.
His eyebrows furrowed.
"Ha-eun? Why would she call at this hour?"
He immediately dialed her number. But it didn't connect.
With a sigh, he tossed the phone onto the bed.
"Again. That woman and her childish pranks." He thought she's making another frank on him
A faint look of annoyance crossed his face.
"She's about to get married, yet she still acts like a child."
Shaking his head, he grabbed a towel and headed for the bathroom.
He never liked the way Ha-eun behaves. He never liked her warmthness, her childish behaviour, always having a smiling face and easy going nature
And whenever she was around, she made him rethink about his life, to move on and start new and he hated that more that.
He took a hot shower and came back into his room, drying up his hair with a towel.
He sat on the bed and the very second his phone started ringing. He took it into his hands
" Hello! "
" Min-joon!! Ha-eun... "
" What about her? "
" She... she... has been in an accident."
----
The sound of rain echoed around her. Ha-eun slowly opened her eyes. She was lying in the middle of the road.
Confused, she pushed herself up and looked around.
"What...?" She looked around in confusion. "I was in my car... How did I end up here?"
Looking around, she turned back and froze when she saw a person in a black coat standing in front of her.
"Who are you?"
His face was cold. It felt as though the rain wasn't touching him at all. And that's when she realised she could hear the rain but couldn't feel it. She quickly looked at herself again and stretched out her arms to check. She got shocked to see the raindrops passing straight through her body.
"What! What's happening here? Who are you? What am I doing here? I was in the car, right?"
After listening to her endless questions, he finally spoke.
"Hello, Yoon Ha-eun. I'm Kwon Si-on, a guide."
"Guide? Of what?"
"The afterlife."
"What?" She frowned in annoyance. "Are you acting in some fantasy drama or what?"
"It may sound like one, but it's reality, Miss Yoon."
"You really are a good actor. But I don't have time to watch your performance and comment on it right now." She quickly turned and took a few steps before he suddenly appeared in front of her.
She got shocked and turned back. Shockingly, he was there too. She turned around again, and he was there as well.
"What? Are you a magician?" Slowly, an unknown fear started creeping into her heart.
"You called me an actor a moment ago. Now I'm a magician? Anyway, you can think of me however you like, but the truth is that I'm a guide. A guide who leads souls to the afterlife."
"No! It can't be. Are you kidding me? Are you harassing me? Don't think I'm some weak girl you found in the middle of the night."
"I have no interest in you, nor will I ever." He started getting irritated. "I don't have eternity to waste arguing with you. My time is very valuable." Saying that, he moved his hand, and they suddenly arrived somewhere else.
She looked around, not fully understanding what had happened, and asked, "What?"
He indicated for her to turn around, and she did.
