Chapter 1
"Sometimes your biggest nightmare isn't the monsters under your bed... it's the thought of waking up without the person you love."
Hello, everyone.
My name is Cassandra Glover, but everyone calls me Cassy.
If you're reading this, you might think this is just another love story. It isn't.
This is the story of the girl who became my home... and the nightmare that changed everything.
It all started in high school.
I was the quiet girl who loved books more than parties. I didn't have many friends, and I preferred sitting alone during lunch. Then one afternoon, a cheerful girl walked up to me with the brightest smile I had ever seen.
"Is this seat taken?" she asked.
I looked up and shook my head.
"No."
She sat beside me anyway.
"I'm Sharon," she said, holding out her hand.
"Cassy."
That simple handshake changed my life.
From that day on, we became inseparable. We studied together, laughed together, skipped boring school events together, and shared dreams we had never told anyone else.
Everyone thought we were just best friends.
Only I knew the truth.
Somewhere between the late-night phone calls, the endless laughter, and the way she always remembered the little things about me, I fell in love with her.
It wasn't planned.
It just happened.
The hardest part wasn't loving Sharon.
The hardest part was wondering if she could ever love me the same way.
Sometimes I'd catch her smiling at me, and my heart would race.
Other times, she'd talk about the future, and I'd silently wonder if there would ever be a place for me in it.
I never told her how I felt.
I was too afraid.
Afraid she'd leave.
Afraid she'd hate me.
Afraid I'd lose the most important person in my life.
One evening, we sat together on the rooftop of my house, watching the sun disappear behind the horizon.
"Cassy," Sharon said softly.
"Hmm?"
"Promise me something."
"What is it?"
"No matter what happens... we'll always stay together."
I smiled, even though fear was tightening around my heart.
"I promise."
She reached for my hand and squeezed it gently.
At that moment, I wanted to tell her everything.
That I loved her.
That she was the first person I thought about every morning and the last person I thought about every night.
But the words stayed trapped inside me.
That night, after Sharon went home, I lay awake staring at the ceiling.
Then I had the same nightmare I'd been having for weeks.
I saw Sharon walking away from me.
I called her name over and over.
She never looked back.
When I woke up, tears were already running down my face.
I whispered into the empty room,
"Please... don't become my biggest nightmare."
