Chapter- 1: the robot friend
Chapter 1: The Robot Friend
Danial was a 17-year-old boy born into a wealthy family. Today was his birthday, and being an excellent student, he expected his parents to gift him something academic or creative.
His parents threw a massive party for him. After the guests left, they handed Danial a large box that stood noticeably tall.
"Go up to your room and open it," his parents said with a smile.
Danial carried the box to his room. The moment he tore it open, he gasped. Inside was a large, sophisticated robot. Suddenly, a sharp whirring sound echoed from the machine, and its eyes flickered to life, glowing with a bright blue light.
Startled by the sudden activation, Danial lost his balance and fell backward onto the floor.
The robot booted up, scanning its new surroundings before its gaze locked onto Danial. Extending a metallic hand, it gently helped Danial back to his feet.
Stunned, Danial dusted himself off. "Wait... my parents got me a robot? Can you talk?"
The robot only emitted a strange, mechanical static.
Danial sat down on his sofa, studying it. "Right... so you can't speak yet." He leaned back. "Alright, show me what you can do."
The robot tilted its head, momentarily confused. Then, its entire chassis began to glow as loud music suddenly blasted through the room. The robot started dancing energetically.
"Hey, stop! Stop!" Danial panicked, jumping up. "I didn't tell you to do that! My parents are going to scold me!"
Hearing Danial's frantic voice, the robot froze, cutting the music. Danial let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay... can you cook? I’m starving," Danial said, pointing toward the kitchen. "
The kitchen is right there. Can you make me a burger?"
The robot turned and marched into the kitchen. A few minutes later, it returned and placed a plate with a freshly made burger in front of Danial.
"Wow, you’re fast!" Danial smiled, taking a big bite.
Instantly, his face turned red. He slammed the burger back onto the plate, coughing wildly. "Aaaa! Too spicy! Water! I need water!"
The robot scanned the room, spotted a water bottle, and grabbed it. It unscrewed the cap and, without hesitation, poured the entire bottle straight over Danial's head.
Drenched and shivering, Danial stared up blankly. "What... why did you do that? 🥹" He sighed, wiping water from his eyes. "Just stay here. Don't move. I'll be right back."
Danial hurried to the bathroom to dry off. Afterward, he went straight downstairs to his parents. "Mom, Dad, what kind of gift is this? It fed me a dangerously spicy burger and then completely drenched me!"
His mother laughed gently. "Beta, it's brand new. It's like a blank slate. You have to teach it how to behave and how to speak."
Danial's eyes widened. "You mean... I'm a robot's teacher?"
Returning to his room, Danial walked up to the machine. "Alright, starting today, I’m going to teach you how to talk. Let's start with something simple. Say... Hello."
The robot strained to process the command, but only a strange glitchy noise came out.
"Let's try again," Danial encouraged. "Hello."
This time, a faint vocalization broke through the static. "H...lo..."
A smile spread across Danial's face. "Hey, look at that! You did it."
Danial spent the entire night patiently teaching the robot. Eventually, exhaustion took over, and he drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Danial was working on his school assignment. One of the essay questions read: 'What will you say to your friend?'
Danial tapped his chin. "What would I say to a friend?..."
Suddenly, the robot sitting next to him spoke up in a slightly glitchy but distinct voice, "W...we are best... fr...friends forever..."
Danial froze in absolute shock. "You spoke?! You actually just said that? Yes! My teaching worked!" He cheered, overflowing with joy.
After finishing his homework, Danial switched on the TV. "Come on, let's watch together."
As they sat down, a breaking news report flashed across the screen: “Robotic engineers have unveiled a new line of advanced humanoid robots designed to assist humans and make daily labor effortless.”
Danial looked over at his mechanical companion. "See? There are going to be more robots just like you out there." The robot nodded in response.
"Come on," Danial added, "let's go to the kitchen. I'm going to teach you how to actually cook a burger."
While teaching the robot in the kitchen, Danial realized something. "Man, I can't keep calling you 'robot' forever. You need a proper name." He thought for a moment before snapping his fi
ngers. "Ringo! Yes, your name is Ringo from now on."
Ringo clapped his hands happily, thrilled with his new identity.
Two days passed. When Danial returned from school, he found his parents sitting on the sofa with Ringo. He joined them.
"Everyone at school is talking about the new robots," Danial mentioned. "Some of the wealthy kids have already bought them."
His father nodded gravely. "Yes, we've been watching the news. These humanoids are becoming incredibly popular nationwide."
"Mom, turn up the volume. Let’s see what they’re saying," Danial requested.
The news anchor reported that robots were rapidly replacing humans in various sectors, from farming to heavy engineering. The screen showed footage of protesting farmers who feared losing their livelihoods.
Danial's father frowned. "Assisting with household chores is one thing, but if they start taking away people's livelihoods, it's going to cause a serious crisis."
Danial stood up, stretching. "Well, whatever happens, it's not our problem. I'm heading to my room. Come on, Ringo." Ringo dutifully followed him upstairs.
The next day at school, the classroom was buzzing. Riya, the most popular girl in school, had brought her family's new humanoid robot with her. It looked incredibly sleek and futuristic. The students crowded around, showering Riya with compliments.
"Riya is so lucky, she has her own robot."
Danial sat at his desk, watching the spectacle. He wasn't pleased, knowing the administration had strictly banned bringing robots to school, but he chose to keep his head down and focus on his studies.
Riya and a few classmates began showing off the machine. "My robot can do absolutely anything," Riya bragged. "It cost a fortune."
A boy named Keshav smirked. "Oh yeah? Tell it to do a handstand."
Riya barked the command, and the robot instantly flipped into a perfect handstand. The crowd cheered. For the next few minutes, they commanded it to perform various tricks.
Amused, Keshav playfully slapped the back of the robot’s head.
Instantly, the robot's eyes flared red. Replicating the action with terrifying force, the robot struck Keshav back, sending him stumbling. The laughter in the room died instantly.
Danial watched intently from afar.
"Hey! You can't do that! Bad robot!" Riya yelled angrily.
But the robot completely ignored her command. Instead, it lunged forward and grabbed Riya by the arm.
Danial leaped from his seat and sprinted toward the commotion. "Stop it!" He threw his weight into the machine, trying to tear it away from Riya.
The robot spun around and backhanded Danial with brutal force. Danial crashed violently to the floor. As the rogue machine advanced toward him to strike again, a heavy object slammed into the robot’s head from behind.
Danial looked up, dazed.
Standing there was Ringo, waving his hand cheerily.
The rogue robot stumbled back, disoriented, before smashing through the classroom window and escaping into the streets.
Danial pushed himself up, astonished. "Ringo?! What are you doing at my school?"
Ringo held out a container, placing it gently in Danial's hands.
Danial blinked. "Oh... you walked all this way just to bring me my lunch tiffin?"
When Danial returned home later that day, his parents and Ringo were gathered around the TV, their faces tight with anxiety.
"Mom, Dad, what's wrong?" Danial asked, sensing the heavy atmosphere.
His mother looked up, trembling. "Have you heard the news? The humanoids... they're completely out of control. A group of them just set fire to a massive oil refinery."
Danial's heart raced. "It happened at school too. A girl brought a robot and it attacked us, but Ringo saved everyone."
"Turn up the TV," his father urged. Ringo grabbed the remote and increased the volume.
The news anchor’s voice was frantic: “The robot rebellion is spreading exponentially. Rogue machines are launching coordinated attacks, destroying infrastructure, government offices, and residential sectors. Humanity is under siege.”
As Danial watched the horrifying footage, Ringo looked at the television, then back at Danial. He reached out and tugged urgently on Danial's shirt.
"What is it, Ringo? Do you want to show me something?"
Ringo led Danial to his bedroom, grabbed a notebook and a pen, and began writing frantically. He handed the page to Danial.
"MY FRIEND, we have to do something together.
Otherwise, these robots will destroy the Earth."
Danial sighed heavily. "But how, Ringo? Those military-grade robots are too powerful for us."
Ringo quickly scribbled another note and held it up:
"We must build an underground bunker. We can
manufacture countermeasures there. I know how to build things. I have the blueprints in my database."
Danial gasped. "What?! You know how to build a bunker and weapons?" He let out a breathless, amazed laugh. "Ringo... you're a total dark horse, aren't you?"
They rushed downstairs to his parents. "Mom, Dad, we need to build an underground bunker right now."
His mother stood up instantly. "Are you out of your mind?!"
Ringo’s vocal processor whirred, uttering a glitchy but firm sentence: "U...un...underground...bunker..."
His mother stared at his father in disbelief. "Did you hear that? Even the robot is demanding a bunker!"
His father stepped forward, looking deeply into Danial's eyes. "Why do you want a bunker, Danial?"
"Because I want to save humanity from the robots," Danial answered defiantly.
His father placed a heavy hand on his shoulder. "Beta, fighting robots isn't your job. You're just a kid. I can't put you in that kind of danger."
"Papa, I'm not going out there to fight," Danial pleaded, his voice breaking. "I want to protect you and Mom. When the robots march down our street, no army is going to come to save our house."
His father sighed. "Building a high-tech bunker isn't a small thing, Danial. It will wipe out our entire life savings."
Tears streamed down Danial's cheeks. "We can always earn money back, Papa... but if something happens to you or Mom, what will I live for? I just need to know you both will survive."
Overwhelmed by his son's love and maturity, his father’s resolve melted. "You're really not going to back down, are you?"
"You're the one who taught me, Papa—you never back down when it comes to family."
His father pulled Danial into a tight embrace. "Alright. We start construction tomorrow."
Danial turned to Ringo. "Promise me, Ringo. Will you stand by me through this?"
Ringo grabbed Danial's hand firmly and nodded his head.
A few weeks later, Danial and Ringo stood inside a highly
advanced, heavily fortified underground bunker. Danial looked at his best friend and smiled. A war for survival was about to begin.
