Chapter 1: The New Girl
The first day at Westwood High School was supposed to be simple.
Mia Anderson stood in front of the enormous school building, nervously adjusting the strap of her backpack. The hallways buzzed with laughter, gossip, and excitement as students hurried to their classes.
"New school, new beginning," Mia whispered to herself.
After moving to the city because of her mother's new job, Mia had no choice but to leave behind her old friends and start over.
She took a deep breath and walked through the front doors.
The hallway was crowded.
Students filled every corner. Some were talking by their lockers while others rushed to class.
Mia carefully looked at the map in her hand.
"Room 203... Room 203..." she murmured.
Suddenly—
BAM!
She collided with someone.
Books flew everywhere.
"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry!" Mia said quickly as she bent down to pick up her books.
Before she could gather them, a cold voice interrupted.
"Watch where you're going."
Mia looked up.
Standing before her was a tall boy with dark hair and sharp blue eyes. He wore the basketball team's jacket, and several students nearby immediately turned to watch.
"Ethan Carter," someone whispered.
"The captain of the basketball team."
"The most popular guy in school."
Mia noticed that Ethan didn't even bother helping her pick up the books.
Instead, he looked annoyed.
"You bumped into me," he said.
Mia frowned.
"No, actually, you were walking while looking at your phone."
A few students gasped.
Nobody talked back to Ethan Carter.
Ethan narrowed his eyes.
"Excuse me?"
"I said you should watch where you're going too," Mia replied firmly.
For a moment, the hallway became silent.
Then Ethan smirked.
"Interesting."
Without another word, he walked away.
Mia stared after him.
"What a jerk."
Little did she know, that single encounter had already changed both of their lives.
Later that day, Mia entered English class.
Her teacher smiled.
"Class, we have a new student. Please welcome Mia Anderson."
Mia introduced herself shyly.
The teacher scanned the room.
"There is one empty seat left."
Mia followed the teacher's gaze.
Her eyes widened.
The only empty seat was beside Ethan Carter.
Ethan looked just as unhappy.
Great.
Absolutely great.
Mia sighed and walked toward the seat.
As she sat down, Ethan leaned closer.
"Looks like we're stuck together."
Mia crossed her arms.
"Unfortunately."
Neither of them knew that this hatred was only the beginning.
And somewhere deep inside, destiny had already started writing their love story.
