Chapter 1 - New to School

I think that I was always an overachiever but now I was the new girl in English class. I had just moved here. Since this was my Senior year, I knew I had one shot to prove I wasn't just another face in crowd: Mrs. Echols' "Original Story" assignment. I didn’t just want an A+; I wanted to be unforgettable.

Of course, I was trying to make a good impression with my English teacher. When she asked us all to write an original story for class, I went the extra mile to secure a top grade by developing a portfolio of four original stories. While I know this is more work than what was asked, I was incredibly passionate about earning an excellent grade. It was a proactive step.

I rolled the stories up and put them in individual bottles. These I put into a small carrying case. I had found my father's brief case and it was perfect for the job. It was also easy for me to carry to school.

I explained to the teacher that I had written four short stories. She told me that she was pleased with my enthusiasm and that I could be the first to read them to the class. This was exactly what I'd hoped for. I was getting in my teacher's good graces.

Upon getting in front of the class, I pulled my first story out and pulled the tape off of the top of the bottle. I distinctly heard a very low scream with a female voice. It somewhat unnverved me. However I opened the bottle to pull out and unroll the story. As I did, I thought that something jumped out of the bottle and ran to the back of the room. I never saw what though. Actually I was unsure if it was my imagination. I always have had an active imagination.

Confused, I unrolled the tale and read my first piece. It was about a story of a young girl who stole from her mother and ran away from home.

As I read this story a girl in the back of the room began crying. Softly at first but finally uncontrollably. At that moment, I had to stop. She began to shake and the teacher had another student remove her from the class. She then had me continue with my reading.
