Prologue:The betrayal Night

Rain hammered against the abandoned pier like bullets from the sky.

The sea below crashed violently against rusted metal pillars while distant thunder rolled across the sleeping city. Cold wind tore through Jian Luo’s coat, but he barely noticed. His attention remained fixed on the lone figure standing at the edge of the dock.

Chen Wei.

For thirteen years, Jian Luo had trusted him completely.

Not because they were merely friends—but because they had survived hell together.

When Jian Luo had nothing, Chen Wei stayed.

When enemies surrounded him, Chen Wei fought beside him.

And when Jian Luo slowly climbed to power, Chen Wei became the only person he never doubted.

So when Chen Wei called him late at night, voice trembling through the phone—

“I need your help.”

—Jian Luo came without hesitation.

Now, standing beneath the flickering dock lights, he finally realized how foolish that trust had been.

“You’re late,” Chen Wei said quietly.

Jian Luo frowned. “What’s so urgent?”

Instead of answering, Chen Wei slowly raised a gun.

The world seemed to stop.

Rain slid down Jian Luo’s face as disbelief settled heavily into his chest.

“…What are you doing?”

Chen Wei’s expression remained calm. Too calm.

“You always were too trusting.”

The words cut deeper than the storm around them.

Jian Luo stared at him, unable to understand. “Why?”

For the first time in years, bitterness surfaced in Chen Wei’s eyes.

“Because everything was always yours.”

“What?”

“Power. Respect. Loyalty.” His voice darkened. “Even him.”

Jian Luo froze instantly.

Lu Yan.

There was only one person Chen Wei could possibly mean.

The man Jian Luo had loved silently for years.

Captain Lu Yan—the city’s most respected police officer. Honest, disciplined, untouchable.

Everything Jian Luo believed he himself could never become.

He had buried those feelings so deeply that no one should have known.

Yet Chen Wei did.

“I never touched what belonged to you,” Jian Luo said coldly.

Chen Wei laughed bitterly. “That’s exactly why I hated you.”

The gunshot shattered the night.

Pain exploded through Jian Luo’s chest.

His legs gave out beneath him as blood spread across the rain-soaked dock. His vision blurred slowly while Chen Wei stared down at him without remorse.

“You should’ve stayed beneath me,” Chen Wei whispered.

Darkness swallowed everything.
