Summary

**IN THE SHADOW OF TRUST: BOOK ONE — BROKEN TRUST** Trust is easy to give, but impossible to rebuild once it is broken. But everything begins to change when a simple misunderstanding becomes something much bigger. A rumor spreads, friendships are tested, and the people Ali trusted the most slowly begin to show their true sides. Caught between loyalty, betrayal, and the search for the truth, Ali must discover that not every smile hides kindness, and not every friendship is as strong as it seems. A Quiet Beginning

Ali had always believed that every place had its own story.

Some stories were written in crowded streets, some in quiet homes, and some in places where people spent years without realizing how much those moments would change them.

For Ali, that place was school.

To most people, school was just a building. A place where students came every morning, sat through lessons, complained about homework, and waited for the final bell to ring.

But Ali saw it differently.

He believed a school was a small version of the real world. A place where people showed their true personalities. A place where friendships were created, promises were made, and sometimes, unfortunately, trust was broken.

Ali had never been the type of person who wanted everyone to notice him.

He wasn’t the loudest person in the room.

He wasn’t the one who always tried to be the center of attention.

He didn’t need that.

What mattered to Ali was simple: being someone people could rely on.

If someone needed help, he helped.

If someone had a problem, he listened.

If two people had an argument, he didn’t immediately choose a side.

He wanted to know the truth first.

Some people thought this made him too innocent.

Others thought he trusted people too easily.

But Ali never saw it as weakness.

To him, trusting people was not foolish.

The real mistake was losing the ability to trust anyone because of a few bad experiences.

The morning air was cold when Ali walked through the school gates.

The courtyard was already full of students. Some were laughing loudly with their friends, some were rushing to finish homework before the first lesson, and some were standing alone while checking their phones.

It was a normal school morning.

At least, that was what Ali thought.

As he walked toward the building, a few students noticed him.

“Morning, Ali.”

“Hey, Ali.”

“Did you solve yesterday’s math question?”

Ali smiled.

“Yeah. It wasn’t as hard as it looked.”

The conversations were short, but they happened every day.

Ali never thought much about them.

He didn’t realize that small moments like these were exactly why people respected him.

He didn’t force friendships.

He didn’t pretend to be someone else.

People simply felt comfortable around him.

“You’re early again.”

Ali turned around.

He already knew who it was before he even looked.

Kayra.

Kayra was walking toward him with his usual relaxed expression. His school bag was hanging from one shoulder, and he looked like someone who had woken up five minutes ago but somehow still managed to arrive on time.

“You’re late again,” Ali said.

Kayra looked offended.

“Late? No. I prefer the term ‘perfectly timed arrival.’”

Ali laughed.

“You say that every day.”

“Because every day it works.”

“One day the teacher will close the door before you arrive.”

Kayra smiled confidently.

“Then I will convince the teacher that the door was too early.”

Ali shook his head.

That was Kayra.

Always joking.

Always finding a way to make people laugh.

But Ali knew there was more to him than that.

Most people only saw the funny side.

They didn’t see how loyal he was.

They didn’t see that Kayra was the type of person who stayed when things became difficult.

Many people could be your friend when everything was good.

But very few people stayed when life became complicated.

Kayra was one of those few.

And Ali knew that.

When they entered the classroom, most students had already taken their seats.

Ali placed his bag on his desk and looked around.

Then he saw Ada.

She was sitting near the window, looking through her notes.

When she noticed him, she smiled.

It was a small smile.

Almost nothing.

But Ali noticed.

He always noticed small things.

Ada was someone important in his life.

Being around her felt easy.

He didn’t have to act differently.

He didn’t have to pretend.

He could simply be Ali.

Of course, their relationship wasn’t perfect.

No relationship was.

Sometimes they disagreed.

Sometimes they misunderstood each other.

But Ali believed disagreements weren’t what destroyed relationships.

The real problem was when people stopped trying to understand each other.

And as long as there was trust, problems could be solved.

At least, that’s what he believed.

A few minutes before the lesson started, the classroom door opened.

Atilla walked in.

Ali looked at him for a moment.

Atilla was not a stranger.

In fact, he had known him for years.

Their paths had crossed many times.

Especially because of Ada.

Atilla and Ada had known each other since childhood.

Because of that, Atilla always felt like he had a special place in their lives.

But recently...

Something felt different.

Ali couldn’t explain it.

There was no obvious reason.

No big argument.

No clear problem.

Just small changes.

The way Atilla looked at him.

The way he became quiet when people praised Ali.

The way his expression changed whenever someone mentioned Ali’s achievements.

Ali noticed these things.

But he ignored them.

Because he didn’t want to judge someone without knowing the truth.

That was not who he was.

Atilla sat down quietly.

From his desk, he watched Ali talking with Kayra.

Everyone seemed comfortable around him.

Everyone seemed to trust him.

And that bothered Atilla more than he wanted to admit.

He didn’t understand why.

Why did people always choose Ali?

Why did teachers respect him?

Why did friends always come to him?

Why did everything seem easier for him?

Atilla had spent a long time asking these questions.

But he had never looked for the answers inside himself.

Instead, he looked at Ali.

As if Ali was the reason for everything he lacked.

The first lesson started.

The teacher began explaining the topic while students opened their notebooks.

Ali focused on the lesson.

For him, it was just another day.

He had no idea that someone sitting only a few meters away was slowly creating a completely different story in his mind.

A story where Ali wasn’t a friend.

He was a rival.

A story where Ali’s happiness felt like an unfair advantage.

A story where destroying someone’s trust seemed easier than improving himself.

At lunch break, Ali, Kayra, and Ada were sitting together.

Kayra was telling a ridiculous story about something that happened earlier that week.

“...and then I realized I had been looking for my phone while holding it in my hand.”

Ada laughed.

“You seriously did that?”

“Yes. And I think that’s proof that my brain takes breaks.”

Ali smiled.

“You have a lot of breaks then.”

Kayra placed a hand on his chest.

“I’m hurt.”

“No, you’re used to it.”

They laughed.

It was a simple moment.

A normal moment.

The kind of moment people don’t appreciate until years later.

From across the cafeteria, Atilla watched them.

He wasn’t angry because they were laughing.

He was angry because he felt like he wasn’t part of that laughter.

He felt outside.

Forgotten.

Invisible.

And instead of walking over and joining them...

Instead of talking...

Instead of admitting what he felt...

He made a different choice.

He stayed silent.

And silence sometimes allows negative thoughts to grow.

After school, Ali and Kayra walked home together.

The streets were quieter than the school.

For a while, neither of them spoke.

Then Kayra broke the silence.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“Don’t you think Atilla has been acting strange lately?”

Ali looked at him.

For a moment, he didn’t answer.

“Maybe.”

Kayra was surprised.

“Maybe?”

“Yeah. But maybe he has a reason.”

Kayra sighed.

“You always do this.”

“Do what?”

“Find a reason for everyone.”

Ali smiled slightly.

“Because usually there is one.”

Kayra looked at him.

“That’s exactly why people trust you.”

Ali laughed.

“I thought you were going to say that’s exactly why I get into trouble.”

“That too.”

They both laughed.

Neither of them knew that this conversation would become one of the last normal conversations before everything changed.

That night, Ali went to sleep believing tomorrow would be just another day.

Another lesson.

Another morning.

Another ordinary moment.

But life rarely announces when it is about to change.

The biggest storms don’t always arrive with thunder.

Sometimes they begin with a quiet thought.

A hidden jealousy.

A small decision.

And somewhere, in the mind of someone Ali once considered only an old friend...

A decision had already started forming.
