Chapter 1 The Prince Who Waited
The old library stood quietly at the end of a narrow street where few people ever visited. The scent of old paper and wood filled the air, and sunlight slipped gently through tall windows, painting golden patterns on the floor. Olivia spent most of her days there.
Every morning, she carefully dusted the shelves, arranged books in perfect order, and greeted the few visitors who entered. At twenty-two years old, Olivia was gentle and beautiful, with soft brown eyes and long dark hair that rested on her shoulders. Though she worked among thousands of stories, she had never truly fallen in love with reading. Books were simply part of her routine, that afternoon, dark clouds slowly covered the sky. Rain tapped softly against the windows as the library became quieter than usual. Then suddenly the front door opened, Olivia looked up from her desk.
A man had entered. Something about him immediately felt strange. He wore a dark coat, and his face remained hidden beneath the shadow of his hood. Without speaking a word, he walked past Olivia and headed toward the oldest section of the library. Olivia frowned slightly, nobody went there… she thought. The stranger searched the shelves carefully until he pulled out a thick, dusty book covered in faded leather. Olivia had never seen that book before, even though she knew every shelf by heart.
That section held books that had gathered dust for years. Even Olivia herself rarely entered that area. She secretly watched him from behind the shelves.
The mysterious man searched carefully through the books, moving his fingers across the old spines as if he were looking for something specific. Suddenly, his hand stopped. Slowly, he pulled out a thick book covered in silver designs. Olivia's eyes widened, I've never seen that book before.
The man sat near a window and opened it. Hours passed while he remained completely focused on reading.
Outside, the rain grew heavier. Evening slowly arrived.
Olivia finished arranging the last shelves and stretched her arms tiredly. Then she looked toward the table again. Her smile disappeared. The chair was empty. The mysterious man was gone.
Olivia stood up immediately. What...? She looked around the library. Sir? she called softly. No answer. Confused, she walked toward the entrance door. It was still locked from the inside. A cold feeling ran down her spine. How could he leave? Slowly, she turned back toward the table.
The old book still remained there, for several moments, she simply stared at it. Her curiosity pulled her closer, very carefully, she sat down and touched the cover. The book felt strangely cold. Taking a deep breath, Olivia slowly opened it. Her eyes widened in shock.
The pages in the center had been cut out, inside was a small silver box. Her heart began beating faster, with trembling fingers, she lifted the box and opened it slightly, but before she could see what was inside, a folded paper slipped out and landed on the table. Confused, Olivia unfolded it.
Only four words were written there: "I finally found you."
Olivia stared at the words. Suddenly… The library lights flickered once, then twice, then the silver box in her hands began to glow softly.
Olivia sat motionless at the wooden table, staring at the silver watch inside the mysterious box. The library had suddenly become unusually silent. The rain outside continued falling against the windows, yet somehow the sound felt distant, as though the world itself had moved far away from her. Tick...Tick...
Olivia frowned. The sound of the watch was becoming louder, slowly she reached inside the box and lifted it carefully into her hands. It felt strangely warm, almost as if it had been waiting for her touch.
The silver frame was covered with beautiful carvings of tiny roses and stars. Around the clock face were symbols Olivia had never seen before. They looked ancient and unfamiliar, yet strangely... they did not feel unfamiliar at all.
A strange feeling settled inside her chest. Why does this feel like I've seen it before?
She looked closer, the watch hands were moving normally.
Then suddenly they stopped, Olivia blinked. Then they started moving backward, her eyes widened, what?
She quickly looked around the library. The clock near the front desk... stopped. The large wall clock above the shelves... stopped. Even her phone screen had frozen. Only the silver watch continued ticking in her hand. Tick...Tick...
A cold wind suddenly passed through the library, books slipped from shelves and landed on the floor with heavy sounds, papers flew through the air even though every window remained closed. Olivia stood up quickly. Who's there? she whispered nervously. No response then suddenly, soft golden light appeared around the watch.
The strange symbols carved into it slowly began glowing. Olivia's breathing became uneven. The watch melody suddenly started playing. It was beautiful, gentle, and heartbreaking. For some reason, tears suddenly filled Olivia's eyes.
She had never heard this melody before, yet her heart felt as if it remembered every note, then the watch slowly opened by itself. Hidden beneath the tiny gears was a folded paper, confused, Olivia carefully unfolded it.
Written in elegant handwriting were the words: “For the girl who forgot me.”
Olivia's fingers trembled, forgot who? forgot what?
Before she could think further, the light from the watch became brighter and brighter. The bookshelves around her disappeared beneath the glow, the floor beneath her feet vanished. Everything around her became white.
Olivia screamed and covered her eyes, then just before the light completely swallowed her and she heard a soft voice whisper from inside the watch: "Come back to me..."
Olivia felt warmth touch her skin. The blinding light slowly faded away, and the cold air of the library disappeared completely. Instead, a gentle breeze brushed across her face, carrying the sweet fragrance of roses. Slowly, she opened her eyes. Her breath caught in her throat.
She was standing in a magnificent garden unlike anything she had ever seen. Endless flowers bloomed around crystal fountains. Butterflies with golden wings floated through the air, and sunlight painted the sky with colors Olivia had never seen before.
She turned around in confusion. Where am I? she whispered. Her heart began racing. This was impossible.
Moments ago she had been inside the library. Now she stood in a place that looked like it belonged inside a fairytale.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind her, gentle, familiar. "You finally came back." Olivia froze. Her body slowly turned. Standing beneath a white rose arch was a man dressed in royal clothing. Dark hair moved softly with the wind, and his deep eyes looked at her as though he had been searching for her for years. No... not searching. Waiting.
He stared at her with disbelief and emotion. Olivia's heart strangely tightened. Why did his eyes feel familiar? The man slowly walked toward her. His eyes never left her face. For a moment, he simply stared, then he smiled softly. "You really came back..."
Olivia stepped backward nervously. Who are you? The man looked surprised. His smile slowly faded. You don't remember? he asked quietly. Olivia shook her head.
Remember what? Remember him? She murmured herself. The sadness in his eyes grew deeper. Then he slowly bowed before her. My name is Adrien.
He looked up at her with a painful smile. And I have been waiting for you… Olivia looked at him with confusion. Waiting for me? Adrien stepped closer. For a very long time.
For some strange reason, Olivia's heart suddenly ached.
As if his words had touched a place inside her she didn't know existed. Then suddenly the wind around them became stronger.
Flower petals flew through the air. Olivia suddenly heard a voice inside her mind. A woman’s voice echoed through her head, she couldn't recognize. "Run before midnight..." She held her head in pain. Adrien's smile disappeared instantly.
The next morning, Olivia woke up slowly as golden sunlight slipped through the yellow curtains of her room. The soft wind carried the sweet scent of flowers inside. For a few moments, she remained lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, then suddenly, memories from yesterday returned, the library, the mysterious watch, Adrien.
Olivia quickly sat up. Was all of that real? she whispered. Just then, a gentle knock came from the door. A maid entered and smiled warmly. Good morning, Princess Olivia. Prince Adrien is waiting for you in the royal gardens.
Olivia froze. Princess again? Before she could ask anything, the maid bowed and left the room. Olivia looked at herself in the mirror. She wore a beautiful light-blue dress decorated with tiny silver flowers. Her hair rested softly over her shoulders. For some reason, seeing herself dressed like this didn't feel strange anymore. It felt… familiar.
Outside, the morning sky was painted with soft shades of gold and blue. Adrien stood near the palace entrance waiting for her. He wore royal clothing in dark blue and silver, and the moment he saw Olivia, a smile slowly appeared on his face. For a few seconds, he simply stared at her. You look beautiful, he said quietly. Olivia felt her cheeks grow warm. Thank you.
Adrien smiled gently and offered his hand. Come with me. Olivia hesitated before placing her hand into his.
The moment their fingers touched, a strange warmth spread through her heart.
The royal garden was more beautiful than Olivia remembered. Endless flowers stretched beneath the bright sky. Crystal fountains sparkled under sunlight, while birds flew among the trees singing melodies sweeter than music. Olivia's eyes widened with wonder. This place is unbelievable... she whispered. Adrien looked at her instead of the garden. You said the same thing before.
Olivia slowly looked at him. Before?
Adrien immediately looked away. Nothing. Olivia narrowed her eyes suspiciously. For the next few hours, they walked through the gardens together. They laughed about small things, talked about flowers, birds, and clouds. Olivia found herself smiling more than she had in a long time.
At one point, Adrien showed her a fountain shaped like two swans facing each other. Olivia stared at it. It's beautiful. Adrien smiled softly. You loved this place. Again. That word. Loved, not love, loved. As if he was speaking about someone she used to be. As if he had known her long before today. Suddenly, something soft touched Olivia's hand. She looked down.
Olivia smiled brightly. It's so pretty… she whispered. Adrien suddenly stopped walking. He stared at Olivia. His eyes softened with sadness and warmth together.
