Chapter 1 : The Encounter
The city was drowning in a relentless, freezing rain.
The streets were slick. Treacherous.
Alisha’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic, irregular rhythm. She wasn't just running anymore. She was fleeing.
Every shadow felt like a claw. Every sound, a threat.
The cold seeped into her bones, turning her blood to ice, but the terror was hotter. It burned.
Then, she heard it.
The low, menacing rumble of an engine. Too steady to be anything other than a predator stalking its ground.
She turned.
High beams sliced through the dark, blinding her for a heartbeat. The car skidded to a halt, the screech of rubber against wet asphalt a piercing cry that silenced the rain.
A door opened.
A silhouette emerged. Tall. Imposing.
It was Ranveer.
He didn't rush. He didn't need to. He moved with the terrifying composure of a man who owned the night.
With each slow, deliberate step he took toward her, Alisha felt her world shrinking. She scrambled back, her breath hitching, until her back met the harsh, unforgiving surface of a brick wall.
Ranveer stopped, looming over her.
The air between them crackled with a dangerous, unspoken tension.
He raised a hand, bracing it against the wall just beside her head, effectively caging her within the sanctuary of his shadow.
The scent of rain, expensive cologne, and something darkly masculine overwhelmed her senses.
He leaned in.
His face was mere inches from hers.
"Running away so late?" he murmured, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that vibrated deep in her chest.
"Or is this just your way of begging me to notice you?"
His hand moved. His thumb traced the trembling line of her jaw. His touch was searing hot against her chilled skin.
Alisha closed her eyes, paralyzed by the sheer weight of his presence.
She knew then, with a sinking dread, that the walls she had built around her life had just crumbled.
