Chapter 1

The whole story unfolded near an old abandoned lighthouse. By that time, he had been thirty years out of work and had long been the victim of teenagers who painted his indecent inscriptions there, as far as they could reach. The searchlight was broken, almost all things were carried away or broken, but brought glass jars made of alcohol that many loved to blow against the wall, causing shards to linger everywhere.

As many people did not lock the entrance to this lighthouse, the door would eventually be unlocked. In the end, the people gave up and left everything as it was. True, later when there were several murders in the lighthouse, when almost half of those who entered the lighthouse disappeared, children, teenagers and even adults stopped being there at all. Although, it must be said that, despite all the gruesome events, no child was injured there.

Rumours spread, as if the mermaids were aroused there; some even saw long-dead girls and women wandering naked through the lighthouse and the dock, but few truly believed it.

That summer, the two lovers decided to go boating after another argument that no one had seen. That day it was raining insatiably, so no one else wanted to go outside and even less to the sea, even if not far away.

But that Julia, that Nikita - both were unpassionate, especially in the heat of emotions. They had a strange love, and this is not usually called love. There was either a passion or a desire to make fun of each other, both of them tacitly consenting.

Because of the strong waves, they swayed hard, the water splashed and poured into the boat, and the engine did not let you speak calmly - it had to shout, and this only made both more angry.

Finally, just as the couple was swimming towards the lighthouse, Nikita couldn’t stand it, had his engine muffled, and then rushed to strangle Yul. She couldn’t react due to the surprise, and her hands were tightly clenched against her neck. Even though anger gave her strength, they were not enough to cope with the larger young man. And Nikita went on: he grabbed her already weak hair and began to hit his head on the bench where Yulia was sitting. She shouted, her throat torn, but no one heard her - the waves were too loud, and nobody had gone to the lighthouse for a long time. The blood dripped from her back, in her ears, and when the pain became completely unbearable, Nikita threw Yul overboard, and she drowned, as if forever...

And the waves grew stronger, and Nikita, not having even bothered to wipe his hands, started up the engine again and quickly headed for the shore, because he realized that if the wave became a little higher, he risked following the beloved.

So he ended up at the lighthouse. There was nowhere to tie the boat, and no time - it had to hide as soon as possible from the rain and the wind and the waves. Then Nikita, without regret, let go of the ship - now there will certainly be no evidence against him, and he did not want to make himself and wash his blood.

The door at the lighthouse with a squeaky man was clattering on the hinges, and it was clattering so much that the young man feared he might get sick, but there was no choice, and Nikita slipped inside.

Dark. It was so dark that the young man, afraid of falling or stumbling on something, touched the wall and moved very slowly towards the ladder. He felt uneasy, but not only because of the darkness. He no longer heard any more waves or door squeaks - nothing at all.

The floor and walls were rusted out, and the skin was tinged with chills.

"Something’s wrong", Nikita thought, but he couldn’t figure out what it was. He forced himself to calm down and go upstairs. It was not easy - the foot and the work were slipping from the steps, and they all seemed to be of different heights. Nikita was already thinking of getting up on all fours, but saw the weak light and almost ran to him. The light seemed to him a refuge, a salvation from darkness and silence, a salvation from fear.

When the young man had crossed the last step, a painting appeared before him that he did not expect to see: near the wall in the round room there was a fireplace on fire, and next to him in the rocking chair sat her grandmother, wrapped in a woolen handkerchief, and she was biting the pipe.

“I’ve been waiting for you?” she said surprisingly cheerful.

Only then did Nikita notice that there was no smoke from the pipe, and no characteristic tolerant smell of tobacco. The young man glanced at the pipe unnoticed - it seemed to be lit. That means one of them had gone mad.

“Excuse me, but who are you?” tried to hide his anxiety Nikita.

In response, the old woman just giggled.

“It seems like you don’t need to warm up by the fireplace. Let’s take you to the room, or else you’ll get lost again. Don’t worry, there’s also warmth there.” She is already up from the chair.

“Something I’m not quite…”

“Come on, let’s go,” replied the old woman, seeing the young man’s doubts. With her voice, Nikita was immediately calmed. Besides, what can any grandmother do for him?

And he went. The old woman took a bright lantern from the nightstand and led the young man even higher, and higher, but for all the way Nikita did not notice any broken bottles or graffiti. And when did they clean up the lighthouse?

The ladder never seemed to end. Maybe they’re already in the stratosphere for so long? And why does it feel like the old lady is feeling easier than he is?

They finally went to the broken floodlight, but the old woman was suddenly missing. The night fell, so Nikita thought she had just turned off the lantern, but the young man didn’t manage to breathe in the cool air with full breasts, as his neck covered something incomprehensible.

“Have you missed it yet?” asked a familiar voice, and blood froze in the young man’s veins.

He could not answer, but realized that his neck was covered by the black hair of the lover he had killed. She attacked him as unexpectedly as he had attacked her, and choked him with the same hair for which he was holding as blood sucked from her nape.

Nikita wanted to answer her, but managed only to squeal something untidy. He didn’t even see the girl, but he already knew that she had turned into a mermaid and became the new lighthouse dweller. Now she has become stronger.

She came closer to strangle him with her hands. It was not enough for her to stand aside, she wanted to feel him suffocating.

With the same long hair that was now submissive to her will, she cast her lover on a wet rock and overturned his face.

“I want you to see my face.”

And then she closed her cold hands and squeezed Nikita’s throat with all her newfound strength, listening to his wheezing. Unfortunately for her, the young man almost immediately began to lose consciousness. Then the mermaid lifted him up and gave a slap.

“That’s not all!”

Yulia grabbed her beloved by the hair and began to slam one of the beams surrounding the lighthouse. She was beating and beating, and could not stop even when there was only one porridge left from her lover’s head.

Without regret, she cast a breathless body from the lighthouse to the high waves, now forever becoming a mermaid.

So this story was only between them two, well, and the other mermaids who lived in the lighthouse.

None of the loved ones were found. Someone was talking that they had escaped together, someone who drowned - certainly in such weather!

But this abandoned lighthouse still stands by the sea, and people still fear it.
