Chapter 1
In the quiet town of Elmwood, nestled in the rolling hills of midwestern America, the streets wound like veins through a body of brick buildings and faded storefronts. Alex Thompson, a 25 year old waiter at the local diner, had just finished his evening shift. The clock had struck 8 PM, and the autumn air carried a chill that made him pull his jacket tighter. He decided to take the shortcut home through the back alleys, a labyrinth of narrow paths lined with overflowing dumpsters and graffiti covered walls. As Alex trudged along, his eyes caught a sparkle on the cracked asphalt. He stopped, kneeling down to inspect it. There, half hidden under a crumpled newspaper, was a silver ring. It looked old, perhaps valuable, with intricate floral engravings and a small sapphire embedded in the center. Alex glanced around. The alley was empty, silent except for the distant hum of traffic. A grin spread across his face. “Score,” he whispered, picking it up and examining it in his palm. It felt solid, real. Without hesitation, he slipped it into the front pocket of his jeans. What harm could it do? Finders keepers, right? But as he stood up, a soft, feminine laugh echoed from the darkness ahead. Alex’s blood ran cold. Stepping into the light was a young woman in a police uniform. She couldn’t have been more than 23, with sharp green eyes, long brown hair tied in a ponytail, and a badge that read “Officer Mia Reyes.” Mia was part of Elmwood’s infamous Tickle Squad, a unique division of the police force made up entirely of young female officers. They despised violence and the harm it caused, so they had developed an alternative method: capturing suspects through relentless tickling. It was effective, non lethal, and left perpetrators begging for mercy rather than fighting back. The squad had a reputation for turning even the toughest cases into giggling messes.Mia’s lips curved into a mischievous smile as she eyed Alex, her gaze flicking to his pocket. She’d been tipped off about a stolen heirloom ring from a nearby antique shop. But Mia loved the game. “Evening, sir,” she said, her voice light and teasing. “Picking up litter? How civic minded of you.”Alex’s heart raced. “Uh, yeah, just... cleaning up. No big deal.” He took a step back, his hand protectively over his pocket.Mia’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Oh, I think it is a big deal. You look a little... guilty. Mind if I take a look?” She wiggled her fingers playfully at her sides, a subtle warning of what was to come.Panic set in. Alex turned on his heel and sprinted down the alley, his sneakers slapping against the pavement. The path twisted left, then right, but he knew these alleys well...or so he thought. Adrenaline pumped through his veins as he heard her footsteps behind him, accompanied by her laughter. “You can’t run forever!” she called out.The alley narrowed, and suddenly, it dead ended at a high chain link fence topped with barbed wire. Alex skidded to a halt, breathing heavily, and spun around. Mia was there, blocking the only exit, her posture relaxed but ready.“End of the line, cutie,” she said, sauntering closer. “Now, why don’t you tell me what you found?”Alex pressed against the fence, his mind racing for an excuse. “I didn’t find anything! Leave me alone!”Mia tilted her head, her grin widening. “Liar. But that’s okay...I love a challenge.” In a flash, she closed the gap, her hands darting out. Her fingers targeted his waist first, poking and squeezing through his jacket at the sensitive spots just above his hips.Alex yelped, a burst of laughter escaping before he could stop it. “Hey! What the...HAHAHA! Stop that!” He twisted away, but Mia was agile, following his movements effortlessly.“Aww, ticklish already?” Mia cooed, her voice dripping with playful mockery. She knew from her training that the waist was a common weak point, especially for guys like him who tried to act tough. Her nails lightly scratched over the fabric, sending ticklish shocks through his body.
