Chapter 1: 0608
Tuesday, August 12.
It didn’t rain today, it was weird. it would always rain on these days. how i desperately wish it rained. perhaps, then our vacations could’ve extended for a longer time. tomorrow, my summer vacations will come to an end. i don’t want to go, i don’t know what to do, i can’t look at people anymore...man, I’m exhausted. They’re always so tiring to talk to. No one genuinely wants to be my friend. I wonder if this year I will be a loner again...
Emil’s recurring thoughts were disrupted by the sound of the doorknob turning clockwise. he put down his hands, which were earlier clutched onto his dishevelled black hair. He abruptly picked up a pen, as if to show he was busy solving his math homework. he raised his head up and changed his frightened and puzzled expression to a neutral one.
“Dinner’s ready, come outside and eat with us.” His mother spoke in a soft tone as she entered the room.
Her eyes widened with concern as she saw the state his room was in.
“Oh my! You’ve been studying all day long, look at the mess your room is in! Books and torn pages everywhere! And you look so pale! Do you wish to be hospitalized or something!? Come outside right now and have dinner! Then clean your room and go to bed, or you won’t be able to wake up for school tomorrow!”
The same long lecture again...Nevermind, I’ll just go and eat.
Emil tidied up his messy desk and piled up the books. With his right hand, he grabbed his bag which was laying on the floor on the right side of his chair. With other hand, he picked up his blue pointer and two math workbooks he was studying from, placed all of them inside the bag, and zipped it. That was all the preparation needed to be done for the school tomorrow.
He took a deep sigh and went downstairs to the living room with his head facing the floor on each step he took. His family members were already seated, waiting for Emil so they can all start eating.
“Just come and sit down already. the food will get cold at this point!” Elira, his one and only elder sister, spoke in an exhausted, a little annoyed tone. She had just gotten back from her daily 9-5 job, which explains her terrible mood. As Emil was taking his seat, Elira opened the pot’s lid.
“Ah, finally my beloved pasta! God knows how long I’ve been craving it! I’m digging in whether you guys eat or no.” Elira’s once tired eyes soon sparkled with glitters upon seeing her favourite dish in front of her and smiled the widest she could. Pasta was the one thing that could turn her mood meter from sad to being the happiest in a matter of seconds.
“You’ve been working overtime quite a lot these days, I’m concerned about your health. Do those bosses of yours not have a home to return to?! Why do they stay and force you all to stay with them for so long as well!?” Her mother’s expressions were filled with concern for her daughter’s well being.
“I know right, but then again what choice do we have? This is the only way to survive and earn.” Elira rolled her eyes and sighed with disappointment, whilst her mouth was filled with half chewed pasta.
“That aside, thanks a lot for the food, mom. Your cooking just feels like a taste of heaven, I’ve been wanting to eat this for so long! It was an amazing meal!” The smile on her face never once faded, that’s how much overjoyed she felt.
“Now, now, don’t overeat or you’ll get sick later!”
“...It was delicious, thank you for the meal, mom.” Emil muttered in an almost inaudible voice.
His mom, who was already waiting for his comment, smiled and nodded at him.
That was surprising...
A bit flustered, he abruptly stood up, with his emptied plates and utensils in hand to put them at the dishwasher. Then, he went back to his room.
9:00 pm
He plopped himself onto the bed and unlocked his phone. he then began his daily routine of reading his favourite manhwas before bed while listening to the playlists he made. He had created several playlists, each dedicated to a specific favourite manhwa of his. whenever he’d listen to those songs, it would remind him of the certain characters he dedicated the songs to. that, was his way of finding peace.
He would read these manhwas for as long as he could stay awake. Often, ruining his sleep schedule and mentally tiring him out for the rest of the day.
