Chapter 1.

Summer of 2014.

Here I am again, back in California.

I've never been a city girl, but the city doesn't feel strange to me. It's like I've been searching for something I can't name, only to find it's just another place with different people. I'm just a normal girl—honestly, I don't even think I've really grown up. Part of me is still that 16-year-old girl in a small Louisiana town, counting days until she could leave, not knowing that leaving was just another kind of trap.

There's nothing special about me. People say I need to open up more, talk more, hang out more. They don't get it—there was never a wall to break through. I just choose to be quiet. Everyone seems to be putting on a show, saying things they don't mean, wanting things they can't explain. I'm just not interested in playing along. It's all so fucking boring. It's always been my choice. It's just a waste of time.

I never really cared about time. Or maybe I care too much. That's what happens when you're alone with your thoughts—you start believing your own lies.

My real name is Wrenly Thea Harlow. You're probably thinking, "What the fuck kind of name is that?"

Honestly, I agree with you. Why did my parents give me such a boring name? That's why I changed it—at least for tonight.

My friend invited me out to a club, knowing we're both broke. But that's never stopped us before.

Someone taps my shoulder.

"Hey Angel, I got you a drink. Fuck, this party is awesome!"

I turn around to see who it is.

"Thanks, Ver."

I take the cup from her hand.

Ver is short for Veronica. She's been my friend since I moved here. I won't say I don't like her, but I do enjoy having her around. She moved all the way from Britain to California after high school to basically escape her religious parents. I mean, she still talks to them, but you know, she's young—I'd do the same thing if I were her. During break, I took her to my aunt's house, and now she's like family, I guess.

Growing up, I never knew my dad, and my mom basically left me at my aunt's house right after I was born. I love my aunt, but now that she has her own family, I don't want to get into all that. Being sad over and over about the same crap I've cried about for years is just pointless.

I guess I feel sad most of the time. Even in crowded places like this, even with Veronica right here. It's not that I don't want to change my life. I think I've just gotten used to feeling this way.

"Did you see Edward coming up to me just now? God, we're totally soulmates, Angeelll... I want him so fucking bad..." Veronica said.

"Yeah, I know. I heard you moaning his name in your room the other day. Pretty desperate, huh?" I replied.

Veronica turned to look at me, her face turning red. "S-shut up. I was horny and that's. NOT. a. crime."

"Right, right, keep telling yourself that," I said, taking a sip of my drink.

Later that night, Veronica was all over Edward like a puppy. Leaving me all alone. I didn't mind. I never do.

Once the alcohol kicked in, I let my pink hair down and headed to the dance floor. I danced like crazy. I didn't care who was watching or who wasn't. Alcohol is the best; it helps me forget, it calms me down, more than people ever could, more than sex ever could.

I shook my head from side to side, jumping up and down, shouting the lyrics to the songs the DJ was playing. Fuck, I couldn't care less about these stupid people.

I drank one drink after another, getting more and more drunk. I was losing control, and I loved it.

On the dance floor, I accidentally bumped into a girl behind me. Her friend saw what happened and grabbed my shoulder hard, turning me around to face her.

"Girl, what the fuck is your problem?" the girl said.

My vision was blurry. I just smirked at her getting in my face, then stuck my tongue out like a little kid, then turned back around and whipped my long pink hair in her face, making her even more pissed.

"Bitch!" she yelled, then grabbed my hair, pulling it hard.

I laughed. I didn't even grab hers back.

Not until it actually started to hurt.

She grabbed a handful of my hair and turned me around to face her. I threw my drink in her face, ruining her makeup.

The fight got worse, and people gathered around to watch. We ended up on the floor.

Soon, the club security kicked me out. I couldn't stop laughing. I was too drunk to give a shit. I took off one of my high heels for no reason and walked away from the club.

After what felt like an hour, I dragged my feet through the street, half-naked. I mean, it's California—no one gives a shit if I look like I just crawled out of hell.

I walked into a convenience store with a bright-ass neon sign in front. I pushed the door open, stepping into the cold store.

"Ring! Welcome!"

The automatic bell rang.

I walked around, grabbing a beer and a vanilla ice cream. The best combo on earth, that's for sure. Then the automatic bell rang again.

"Ring! Welcome!"

Signaling another person coming in. I kept exploring the store.

Once I was done, I headed to the cashier, dropping everything from my hands clumsily. My head was spinning from the alcohol I'd consumed earlier.

Beep Beep

"That'll be $14.30," said the old Pakistani guy.

I looked at him for a while, then rolled my eyes. Stumbling slightly as I rummaged in my boobs, looking for some cash. "Just a minute."

Fuck. There's nothing here. Then I rummaged the left side of my boob.

Still nothing.

"C'mon young lady. I have another customer here," he said impatiently.

I turned around, looking at the tall customer behind me, pulling my hand out of my boob.

"Can you cover for me?" I said to them. I couldn't make out a clear image of their face. Fucking alcohol.

They pushed me aside, hard enough for my weak, drunk body to stumble to the side.

I pouted, looking down at the floor.

Beep Beep Beep Beep

"Even this one?" the shop owner asked.

The customer nodded, then looked at me with my head down.

As soon as they finished the payment, they shoved the items into my hand. I stumbled again, looking up at them with a disheveled face. "Thanksss..." I giggled slightly.

The customer just rolled their eyes, then walked out of the store without another word.

I don't know what was wrong with me, but I felt my heart racing slightly like it never had before.

I followed that person out.

"H-hey!" I yelled loud enough for them to hear.

They turned around with keys and plastic bags from their recent purchase at the store.

Those eyes looked at me.

I squinted to clear my vision, to see who this person was, whom I couldn't seem to let go of.

I walked up to her, stumbling each time I took a step due to my imbalance.

I pointed at her, drunkenly, tilting my head to my right side.

"Cannn... you open my beer?" I blurted out.

"Tch..."

Hearing that sound coming from their mouth... I couldn't help but drift my eyes to their lips.

For the first time,

I actually... want something.

I want them.

They handed me back the beer.

"Here." A woman's voice.

I couldn't decipher much due to my blurred vision and spinning head. But now I knew—she was a woman.

She sounded older... and that certain tone... was sexy. Fuck, it turned me on.

"Thanks." I brushed my hand against hers as I grabbed it. I moved my gaze up to her eyes. I didn't remove my hand from hers.

I leaned in and took a sip, right there, as if she was feeding me.

I looked up at her as I did it.

She didn't pull away.

She didn't even move her hand.

She scoffed, and even though my vision was blurry, fuck, I could feel that sly smirk.

As soon as I pulled away, grabbing the beer along with me, it spilled a bit onto her fingers.

I didn't hesitate—

I didn't even think. I grabbed those soft fingers, bringing them to my mouth and licking them clean.

"Fuck..." she groaned quietly.

Once I finished, I pulled them out. Then I stood straight, looking at her

"What's your name?" She asked.

"Angel," I replied.

She looks me up and down, her gaze lingering on my features.

Slowly, she walks closer to me until the heat of her body is palpable.

With a gentle touch that sends shivers down my spine, she pushes strands of my hair behind my ears.

I lean into her caress like a needy puppy craving affection.

"I'm not usually this easy, you know?" I say softly.

"I must be special then." She replies with a smirk playing at the corners of her lips.

"Maybe," I murmur before leaning forward to press a tender kiss against the palm of her hand while gazing deeply into her eyes.

If only the flickering streetlight would allow me to discern the exact color of those captivating orbs staring back at me so intensely.

My body aches with desire for this goddess standing before me.

Unable to resist any longer, I surge forward and grab her face roughly in both hands.

Pulling her down to my level, I capture her lips in a searing, hungry kiss.

She doesn't pull away, but I sense a shift in her demeanor.

As we part, our saliva mingles and stretches between us like a gossamer thread.

Breathless, she ask

"Are you drunk?"

"So what?" I retort defiantly.

She sighs heavily and rubs at her furrowed brow. "We can't do this. I don't want to take advantage of you when you're not fully aware of your actions."

"I'm aware enough," I insist, nuzzling into the crook of her neck and inhaling deeply. "I want it regardless..."

She pushes me away gently but firmly as she shakes her head in amused disbelief. The plastic bag crinkles loudly as she crosses her arms over her chest.

"You feel it too," I press on stubbornly. "Don't deny it..."

"No," she stated.

"Just because I've had a few drinks?" I protest, my words slurring slightly.

She raises an eyebrow. "A few? The fumes coming off you could fuel a car."

"You want it too," I insist, stepping closer again.

"No," she repeats firmly, taking a step back and putting some distance between us. Her body language is closed off now, arms still crossed tightly over her chest.

Hot.

"I want it... Don't you care about my needs? Yes, I'm drunk, but I'm also really fucking wet. And it's your fault," I said.

"Hm," she hummed, clearly struggling to resist me.

"Are you really gonna leave me all needy and dripping for you?" I whined, pouting up at her with pleading eyes.

She sighed heavily. "It's not easy for me either."

"What are you going to do about it then?" I challenged boldly, twirling my hair as I swayed on unsteady feet

"Ah."

She had an idea.

She set down her keys and bag on her car hood before rummaging through a plastic sack. Triumphantly, she pulled out a new notebook.

"Do you have a pen?" She asked hopefully.

I scoffed incredulously when she asked that. She shrugged and looked at my back pocket instead.

"What?" I asked groggily as she eyed me with mischief in her eyes.

"Lipstick?" She inquired with a raised eyebrow.

I handed her the lipstick from my pocket without hesitation. I stumbled as I leaned in close to her, my drunkenness making me clumsy.

"What are you doing..." I slurred softly, blinking up at her with lust-filled eyes.

She smirked before instructing: "Here, write your phone number."

"If you remember it,"

she added skeptically. Leaning against her car door, she crossed one leg over the other and watched me expectantly through hooded eyes dark with desire.

"I'm... not stupid... of course I remember..."

I insisted indignantly even as doubt crept into my drunken mind.

My hand shook slightly as I gripped the lipstick tightly and pressed it to the blank page of the notebook.

"I don't usually let people go so easily," I paused before continuing "I will fucking get back at you,"

I said, my head still hurting but my eyes getting clearer.

"You should sober up first before talking to me," she said in a mean sarcastic voice.

I felt really mad. Without thinking, I pulled down my underwear and threw it at her. It landed on her shoulder.

"Asshole," I said, crossing my arms.

She just stood there quietly with a smirk on her face that made me even angrier.

"Call me soon or else!" I yelled as I walked away, stumbling every steps.

She put my underwear in her pocket when she thought I wasn't looking.
