Chapter 1
The Girl Who Remembered My Name
The garden had no sky.
Above it floated an endless ocean of glowing roots, stretching into darkness like veins carrying memories instead of blood.
Millions of flowers breathed together.
Not with wind.
With heartbeats.
Thump...
Thump...
Thump...
Each flower pulsed with a different rhythm.
Some glowed warmly.
Others flickered weakly, as though they were one forgotten memory away from disappearing forever.
The boy stood frozen.
His shoes sank into soft grass that shimmered like tiny stars.
The silver-haired girl watched him silently.
Tears still rolled down her face.
Yet she smiled...
...the kind of smile someone gives after waiting an eternity.
"You..."
the boy whispered.
"Who are you?"
Instead of answering...
she walked toward him.
Every flower bent slightly as she passed.
Not because of wind.
Because they recognized her.
When she stopped before him...
she slowly lifted her trembling hand.
"I've waited..."
her voice cracked.
"So long that I forgot what hope felt like."
The boy stepped back.
"You know me?"
"I remember everything."
His breathing became uneven.
"My parents forgot me."
"My friends forgot me."
"The whole world forgot me."
"So..."
his voice almost broke,
"Who am I?"
The girl's smile disappeared.
For the first time...
fear entered her eyes.
"You don't remember?"
He shook his head.
"I don't even remember my own name."
Silence.
The flowers stopped glowing.
One by one...
their heartbeats slowed.
The girl closed her eyes.
A single tear fell onto the grass.
The moment it touched the ground...
a white lily bloomed.
Inside its petals...
the boy saw a memory.
A little child...
laughing beneath cherry blossoms.
Beside him...
the same silver-haired girl.
Both no older than seven.
They were making a promise.
The little girl tied a red thread around the boy's wrist.
"I'll never forget you."
The little boy smiled.
"Even if the whole world does?"
She laughed.
"Especially then."
The memory shattered like glass.
The lily turned into light.
The boy stared at his empty wrist.
His chest tightened.
"I... remember that feeling."
"But not the memory."
The girl whispered,
"Because someone stole it."
The air became cold.
Every flower suddenly leaned in the same direction.
Not toward the girl.
Toward the darkness beyond the garden.
Something...
was coming.
A distant bell echoed.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The flowers trembled violently.
One after another...
their lights began going out.
"What is happening?"
the boy asked.
The girl's face turned pale.
"They found you."
"Who?"
She looked straight into his eyes.
"The Ones Who Erase."
Before he could ask another question...
the ground exploded.
Black vines burst upward like giant snakes.
A scream echoed across the endless garden.
Not human.
Not animal.
Something ancient.
The flowers nearest the vines instantly turned gray.
Their heartbeats...
stopped.
The silver-haired girl grabbed the boy's hand.
The moment their fingers touched...
a blinding golden light erupted between them.
The entire garden shook.
The black vines recoiled as if burned.
For a brief second...
the boy saw another vision.
A battlefield beneath a blood-red moon.
Cities on fire.
The silver-haired girl standing beside him.
Both holding glowing swords.
Both crying.
Both making the same promise.
"If the world forgets us... we'll find each other again."
The vision vanished.
The golden light disappeared.
The girl looked horrified.
"No..."
"It can't be..."
"What did you see?" the boy asked.
She stared at him as though she had seen a ghost.
"You remembered..."
"...before the Garden allowed you to."
A deafening roar split the darkness.
A gigantic creature stepped out from the shadows.
Its body was woven from torn photographs, burnt letters, broken clocks, and thousands of cracked mirrors.
Where its face should have been...
there was only an empty hole swallowing light itself.
It spoke without opening a mouth.
Every forgotten voice in history echoed together.
"Return the Heart That Should Never Be Remembered."
The monster took one step forward.
Across the garden...
hundreds of flowers withered instantly.
The silver-haired girl moved in front of the boy.
Her hands glowed with silver symbols.
"I won't let you erase him again."
The creature laughed.
A laugh so hollow...
it sounded like memories dying.
Then it whispered one name.
A name the boy had never heard before.
Yet the instant he heard it...
his heart skipped a beat.
And for the first time since being forgotten...
he felt that somewhere deep inside...
he had finally remembered who he used to be.
