preface
I want to start by saying this is NOT where The Ledger series started out heading. When I started writing Nox's story it was borderline trauma porn, I'm not even going to try to cover that up. and honestly the next book if you're okay living off of scraps of the past like you get in book one then honestly skip it book two is going to be absolutely trauma porn.
BUT somewhere during the prologue I stopped, I stepped back and I said 'I want to do something different. I want to take what I started in Catching strays and Finding Shelter in the boy I forgot and I want to do a whole series following one wildly unreliable narrator who's been through hell and healing from it. like really healing. the slow kind, the real kind, the institutional kind. the kind that still has edges years after it starts.' and so that's what we're doing with the ledger series.
now that said. I want your feedback on this one (I want your feedback on ALL of them but some of you are afraid to give it if it isn't positive I want ALL of the feedback good and bad. this is amazing and 'uh since when do people talk like this.' that way if it's something that's a genuine issue I can correct it. if it's something that just needs a deeper explanation from a personal POV I can give that too!)
Over the course of writing The Ledger Unbalanced Nox and crew became mirrors for some of my own trauma responses, you can have fun figuring out which ones if you want, I won't spoil it for you. and while all of them have their own personalities I see myself shine through the most in Nox and eventually Eryn when he shows up.
So I hope you enjoy, but most importantly I hope you take care of yourself while you're on this journey with us, because it's long and it's fucked up.
