Chapter 1

A New Beginning

High school had ended.

For Serena, it felt like she was leaving behind a familiar world and stepping into something completely unknown. The classrooms she once knew, the people she had grown comfortable with, and the memories she had collected over the years were now part of the past.

Higher secondary was a new chapter.

A new environment.

New people.

A new beginning.

But instead of feeling completely excited, Serena felt nervous.

On her first day, she stood outside the classroom, holding her books tightly as she tried to calm herself. Her mind was filled with questions. Would she be able to make friends? Would she fit in? Would this place ever feel like home?

Serena was never someone who easily approached people. She was quiet and reserved, the kind of person who observed from a distance before opening up. Walking into a classroom full of strangers felt overwhelming.

Taking a deep breath, she finally stepped inside.

The classroom was filled with unfamiliar voices, laughter, and conversations. Students were introducing themselves, finding seats, and already beginning to form friendships.

Serena looked around, feeling like she was the only one who didn't belong.

Until she saw him.

A familiar face among strangers.

Asher.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She had known of him for two years. For two years, he had been the person she secretly admired from afar. A quiet crush she had never confessed and never had the courage to approach.

But the truth was, Asher didn't know her.

To him, Serena was just another new face in the classroom.

He didn't know about the girl who had noticed him for years. He didn't know about the small things she remembered about him or the way her heart felt lighter whenever she saw him.

Asher was around 5'7, with folded brown eyes that had a calm and gentle look. Serena always found herself drawn to his eyes. There was something warm about them that made him stand out. A small mole near his lips was another little detail she quietly noticed, something that made him memorable in her eyes.

But it wasn't  only his appearance that made Serena admire him.

It was the way he carried himself.

Asher was kind, friendly, and easy to talk to. He had a personality that naturally made people feel comfortable around him. He didn't need to try to be noticed; he simply was.

Serena wanted to talk to him.

She wanted to say hello, to become someone he knew, but every time she thought about approaching him, nervousness stopped her.

So she stayed silent.

Adjusting to the new environment was harder than she expected. While others quickly found friends and started laughing together, Serena struggled to find her place.

She would sit quietly, keeping to herself, spending most of her time alone.

Her seat was in the corner row, near the window, on the second bench.

From there, she had a view of the entire classroom.

Especially Asher.

He sat in the middle row, on the last bench, surrounded by his friends.

Serena would secretly look at him from her seat near the window. She watched him laugh, talk, and enjoy his day, completely unaware of the person quietly admiring him from afar.

She knew his name.

She knew the little things about him.

But he didn't know hers.

And maybe that was what made it feel so impossible.

Serena never imagined that a simple crush would become the beginning of a story that would change her life.

She didn't know that the distance between a girl sitting by the window and a boy sitting at the back of the classroom would someday become the first page of their story.

A story she would never forget.
