Chapter 1: The Honest Officer
Chapter 1: The Honest Officer
The city had forgotten what justice looked like.
People no longer believed that the law could protect them. If you had money, you could escape almost anything. If you had power, even the truth could be buried.
Most officers had accepted that reality.
Inspector Shabbir never did.
He wore his uniform with pride every single day. His badge wasn't just part of his job—it was a reminder that someone had to stand for what was right, even when nobody else did.
One busy afternoon, a black luxury SUV stopped outside the police station.
A sharply dressed man stepped out, carrying a leather briefcase.
He walked straight into Shabbir's office without waiting for permission.
"I'll get straight to the point," the man said as he placed the briefcase on the desk. "A businessman was arrested this morning. Release him."
Shabbir looked up.
"He broke the law."
The man smiled.
"Everyone breaks the law."
He slowly opened the briefcase.
It was filled with stacks of cash.
"Think of it as a gift."
For a moment, the room was silent.
Then Shabbir quietly closed the briefcase and pushed it back.
"I don't accept gifts from criminals."
The man's smile disappeared.
"You have no idea who you're talking to."
Shabbir stood up.
"I know exactly who I'm talking to."
He pressed the intercom.
"Constable, please escort our guest outside."
The visitor picked up the briefcase and walked toward the door.
Before leaving, he stopped.
"This city belongs to people like me."
Shabbir answered without fear.
"Not while officers like me are still wearing this uniform."
The man gave a cold smile.
"We'll see."
He walked away.
Shabbir watched the SUV disappear through the station window.
Something about that smile stayed with him.
It wasn't the smile of someone who had lost.
It was the smile of someone who had already made his next move.
Without realizing it, Inspector Shabbir had just made the most dangerous enemy of his life.
