Jasper, a human barista, lives in an elf realm where the Sablecourt's magical gate — the "door" — hums with forgotten names: Witness, Bridge, Root, Apprentice, and Freed. When Prince Sael, hidden behind a princess's veil, needs to be proven alive, Jasper becomes the "Witness" the gate borrowed from a brick wall. From there he carries the light of truth from room to room: he restores a cut vow, names a people erased from the archives, unmasks a forger, shares a hoarded river, frees a sealed Witness, and returns the Grey — the border-keepers the peace erased — to the land that took them. All while navigating a princess ensemble, the open love of Maelis and Nerys, and his own bond with Sael. The story closes as the five courts gather at the gate and Jasper speaks its last name: "Home."
