When love found me
We met in 2022.
It was the kind of love that makes you believe you've found your person. Everything felt easy. We laughed, dreamed together, and built a future in our conversations. There was warmth, peace, and hope. If anyone had asked me then, I would have said I had found the man I wanted to spend my life with.
What I didn't know was that beneath that beautiful beginning, another story was already being written.
In 2023, he cheated on me.
I didn't know it then. I would only discover the truth much later, in December 2025, after digging through old messages and piecing together a puzzle I never wanted to solve.
The woman was Ann.
She had visited him in December 2023, and from their conversations, I discovered they had slept together. Reading those messages years later felt like reliving a betrayal that had happened without my knowledge. It was as if time had stood still, waiting for me to uncover the pain.
Then came 2024.
I found out I was pregnant in July. I remember calling him, nervous but hopeful, to tell him we were going to have a baby.
His reaction wasn't joy.
He was shocked. Then he questioned whether the baby was his.
After my first ultrasound, he told me the estimated due date didn't add up. To him, it meant the child couldn't be his.
Those words broke something inside me.
I cried harder than I ever had before. I knew the truth, yet I found myself defending my own integrity to the man I loved. All I could say was, "It's okay. Time will tell."
Not long after, I travelled to Embu for a project and stayed at his place. It was during that visit that I came across the messages between him and Ann.
The flirting.
The intimacy.
The memories they shared.
Everything pointed to a relationship that crossed every boundary.
I almost walked away.
There were moments when I questioned everything, including whether I should continue with the pregnancy. I even thought about abortion because I couldn't imagine bringing a child into a relationship that suddenly felt built on lies.
But I chose my baby.
It remains one of the hardest and bravest decisions I have ever made.
Months later, I gave birth.
The moment our daughter arrived, there was no room left for doubt. She looked exactly like him. Suddenly, the questions about paternity disappeared because her face answered every one of them.
I thought maybe this was a new beginning.
I was wrong.
When our baby was three months old, I stayed with him again. That was when another name entered my life.
Francisca.
He told me she was only a business partner.
But his phone told a different story.
Their conversations weren't just about work. They exchanged personal photos. She sent him pictures of the food she was eating. She shared prescriptions from the doctor. There were endless phone calls and conversations that carried the excitement of two people getting to know each other in a deeply personal way.
It felt like watching another relationship bloom while I was standing there holding our child.
When I confronted him, he brushed it off.
Again.
Eventually, I returned to my home in Naivasha.
Later, when his contract ended, he moved in with me.
I wanted to believe that living together would help us rebuild what had been broken.
Instead, history repeated itself.
Ann came back.
I found messages filled with longing.
"I miss you."
Searching for her.
Looking for ways to reconnect.
Love that should have belonged to me was being given to someone else.
Then one day, around July 2025, everything escalated.
Ann's boyfriend, called him.
He warned him to stay away from his girlfriend.
The situation almost exploded. There were messages between them, angry words, and threats to settle things "like men."
As I watched it unfold, I couldn't stop asking myself one question:
If there was nothing between them, why would another man have to call and warn him away?
That moment confirmed what my heart had been trying to deny.
This wasn't a misunderstanding.
It was betrayal.
Today, we still live under the same roof.
But we don't share a bed.
There is a distance between us that no room can measure.
When I look at him, I don't just see the man I fell in love with in 2022.
I see Ann.
I see Francisca.
I hear the accusations that our child wasn't his.
I remember crying alone while carrying his baby.
I remember questioning my worth because of choices I never made.
People often say forgiveness is a choice.
Maybe it is.
But they rarely talk about memory.
Because memory has a way of sitting quietly beside you, showing up in ordinary moments. It reminds you of every message you wish you had never read, every lie you believed, every tear you cried in silence.
I don't know whether my story ends with forgiveness or with walking away.
What I do know is that betrayal changes you.
It teaches you that love without trust becomes survival.
And survival is not the same as living.
So today, I stand between two painful choices.
To forgive a man whose actions keep reopening wounds...
Or to leave the man I once believed would never be the reason I had to heal.
Maybe one day I'll know which path is mine.
Until then, I carry both my heartbreak and my strength, hoping that whichever choice I make, it will finally lead me back to peace.
