A tragedy struck on a rainy Wednesday afternoon on Route 9, at kilometer 143 near the lake area, where a violent traffic accident involving two families left a devastating toll: a six-year-old girl dead, a woman in critical condition, and a medical miracle that allowed three people to survive almost inexplicably.
Plastic surgeons David and Helena Duarte, well-known figures in Monte Negro’s aesthetic medicine field, were returning from a seaside vacation with their daughter Clara (six) when they were hit head-on by a vehicle that, according to investigators, may have crossed into their lane due to a technical issue that has yet to be identified.
The impact was brutal. The Duarte family’s car was completely destroyed, yet, remarkably, all three occupants survived. Seat belts and sheer luck played a crucial role. Little Clara was quickly taken to a pediatric hospital with minor multiple injuries and is now out of danger. David suffered two broken ribs, while Helena required stitches for cuts on her face and right arm. Medical sources report that all three are stable and out of danger and may return home soon.
The tragedy lies on the other side of the حادث. The vehicle that struck the Duartes was driven by Emilia Galeano, 35, who was traveling with her daughter Ariana (six).
