Summary

Three years after a failed medical breakthrough turned millions into flesh-hungry monsters, the world has collapsed. Cities lie in ruins, governments are gone, and survival is all that matters. Jake, a 22-year-old escapee from a secret military laboratory, carries abilities no ordinary human should possess. Engineered to become the perfect weapon against the infected, he soon discovers that the people who created him are far more dangerous than the monsters outside. When he finds shelter with a small group of survivors hidden in the mountains, Jake finally experiences something he thought he had lost forever: trust, friendship, and hope. But his past refuses to stay buried. As ruthless soldiers close in and terrifying new mutations emerge, the group is forced into a desperate fight for survival that will test their courage, their loyalty, and the sacrifices they're willing to make. In a world where the dead aren't the only monsters, the greatest threat may still be the people who started it all.

Chapter 1

April 3, 2025

The plaza in front of the White House was packed with cameras, cables, microphones, and reporters from around the world. Helicopters circled overhead while a crowd of journalists spoke all at once, each broadcasting for their respective network. Giant screens displayed the logo of the medical project that had captured the world's attention: an experimental treatment that promised to cure cancer.

Inside the building, a spacious, spotless white room had been prepared as a medical ward. Rows of hospital beds, heart monitors, hanging IV bags, and medical staff moved about with practiced precision. On each bed, patients of different ages lay quietly, some nervous, others visibly excited.

A dark-haired reporter, dressed in a formal suit and holding a microphone, walked slowly between the beds as a camera followed closely behind her.

—That's right, everyone —she said with a professional smile—. We are here inside the White House, where just a few minutes ago what many are already calling the greatest medical breakthrough of the century officially began.

The reporter paused briefly, allowing the camera to capture the patients.

—The people you see behind me are the first volunteers to receive the new cancer vaccine. These are patients who have spent years battling this disease and who, today, for the very first time, have a genuine reason to believe that everything can change.
