Chapter 00: Epigraph
When the sea first climbed the mountains,
the people cried, “The heavens are angry.”
The wise answered, “No.
The heavens have become silent.”
Yet neither spoke the truth.
For the sea does not ask the mountain whether it may rise.
Nor do the stars ask the ant whether it may sleep beneath them.
The world does not seek permission.
It simply is.
Therefore curse not the darkness,
for darkness has never heard your name.
Curse not the sea,
for the sea remembers no footsteps.
Curse not the heavens,
for they have never once looked down.
Instead, remember those who walked beside you.
For they alone ever truly did.
And when they are gone,
remember them still.
For only those who survive
are left to invent the reasons.
