Chapter 1:The Memory That Should Not Exist

I don't remember my birth.

Everyone says that's impossible.

They say every human being is born with a beginning, a first breath, a first cry… a moment that proves they existed.

But I have no beginning.

Only a memory.

A memory of a place that doesn't exist.

---

The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was darkness.

Not the peaceful darkness of night.

A different kind.

A darkness that felt alive.

I was lying on cold metal, staring at a ceiling full of cracks. Strange blue lights moved across the walls like veins, as if the building itself was breathing.

I didn't know where I was.

I didn't know how I got there.

And the most terrifying part…

I didn't know my own name.

I tried to remember.

Anything.

My family.

My childhood.

My home.

Nothing.

My mind was an empty room.

But then...

A voice appeared inside my head.

Not a voice I heard.

A voice I remembered.

"When the world forgets you... don't forget yourself."

My heart stopped.

Because I knew those words.

I had never heard them before.

Yet somehow...

I missed the person who said them.

I slowly sat up, looking around the abandoned room. On the floor beside me was a small piece of broken glass.

But it wasn't ordinary glass.

Inside it, something was moving.

A scene.

A memory.

I saw a city floating beneath a black sky.

I saw thousands of people running.

I saw a moon split into two pieces.

And then...

I saw myself.

Standing in the middle of that destruction.

Crying.

Holding someone's hand.

Someone whose face I couldn't see.

The memory disappeared.

The glass shattered.

And a single sentence appeared on the wall in front of me:

"You were never supposed to remember."

I stared at the sentence on the wall.

"You were never supposed to remember."

The words weren't written with ink.

They were carved into the metal itself.

As if someone knew I would wake up here.

As if this place was waiting for me.

I reached out and touched the letters.

The moment my fingers touched the cold surface...

My vision changed.

---

For a second, I wasn't inside the room anymore.

I was somewhere else.

A garden.

A beautiful garden under a sky full of stars.

Someone was standing in front of me.

A woman.

I couldn't see her face.

But I knew her.

I knew her better than I knew myself.

She was crying.

"Listen to me, Elara..."

My breath stopped.

Elara.

That name.

It felt strange.

But at the same time...

It felt like coming home.

"Don't let them take your memories," the woman whispered.

"They will tell you that forgetting is mercy."

Her hands touched my face.

"But the truth is..."

The world around her started breaking apart.

"...forgetting is how they control you."

A loud noise filled the air.

Something was coming.

The woman looked behind me with fear.

"They found you."

Then she pushed me away.

"No matter what happens..."

Her voice became weaker.

"Remember who you are."

---

I woke up on the floor.

My hands were shaking.

The room was silent again.

But one thing had changed.

I knew my name.

Elara.

I repeated it quietly.

"Elara..."

The name felt like a secret I had stolen from someone else.

Before I could think, a sound came from behind me.

A door.

A door that I was certain wasn't there before.

Slowly...

It opened.

A man stood on the other side.

He wore a dark coat covered with strange symbols.

His eyes looked tired.

Not like someone who had just found a stranger.

Like someone who had been searching for me for years.

He looked at me.

And the first thing he said was:

"You finally remembered."

My body froze.

"Who are you?"

The man didn't answer immediately.

His eyes moved to the broken memory glass beside me.

Then back to me.

"My name is Kai."

A pause.

"And I'm the person who was ordered to erase your existence."

The room became colder.

"What?"

Kai looked away.

"I was supposed to erase your memories..."

He stepped closer.

"But I failed."

"Why?"

For the first time, his expression changed.

A hint of fear appeared.

"Because your memory..."

He whispered.

"...was never inside your mind."

Silence.

"What do you mean?"

Kai looked at the wall where the message was written.

Then said:

"Your memories were hidden inside the world itself."

And at that moment...

I realized something.

The world around me wasn't hiding the truth from me.

The world itself...

was trying to remember.

The world itself was trying to remember.

I wanted to laugh.

Because it sounded impossible.

A world couldn't have memories.

Buildings didn't dream.

Stones didn't remember.

The sky didn't keep secrets.

At least...

That was what I believed.

Until the lights above us began to flicker.

Kai suddenly turned toward the ceiling.

His expression changed.

For the first time, I saw something other than calmness on his face.

Fear.

"They found us."

I looked at him.

"Who?"

He didn't answer.

Instead, he grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the room.

"Wait!"

I tried to stop him.

"I don't even know who I am. I don't know where I am. And now you're dragging me somewhere without explaining anything?"

Kai stopped.

For a moment, he looked at me.

Then he said quietly:

"You're right."

His voice was tired.

"You deserve to know."

The hallway around us was dark and abandoned. Strange symbols covered the walls, glowing faintly like they were alive.

Kai looked at those symbols.

"This place was called The Archive."

"The Archive?"

"A place created to store everything humanity lost."

I frowned.

"Lost?"

He nodded.

"Memories. Knowledge. History."

He looked at me.

"People think forgetting happens naturally."

A pause.

"But it doesn't."

A cold feeling moved through my body.

"What are you saying?"

Kai's eyes became serious.

"Someone has been deleting pieces of human history for hundreds of years."

The lights suddenly turned red.

An alarm.

A voice echoed through the hallway.

"Unknown memory signature detected."

"Location confirmed."

"Subject Elara has awakened."

My heart stopped.

Subject?

They weren't looking for a person.

They were looking for a thing.

Kai grabbed my hand again.

"We have to go."

"Why are they afraid of me?"

He didn't answer.

"Why did they erase my memories?"

Silence.

Then he said:

"Because your memories contain the beginning."

"The beginning of what?"

Kai looked at me.

"The beginning of the world."

---

The ground shook.

A massive door at the end of the hallway opened.

Behind it was not another room.

It was a city.

A hidden city buried beneath the world.

Thousands of lights shined in the darkness.

But something was wrong.

Every building...

Every street...

Every single place...

had the same symbol.

A circle with a line through its center.

Kai looked at it.

"The symbol of the people who created this world."

I stared at him.

"Created?"

Before he could answer...

A voice came from behind us.

"After all these years..."

We turned.

A woman stood in the darkness.

Wearing a white coat.

Her eyes were cold.

But her smile was calm.

"She finally woke up."

Kai stepped in front of me.

The woman looked at him.

"You failed your mission, Kai."

Then she looked at me.

"And you..."

Her smile disappeared.

"...you remembered the thing that was supposed to remain forgotten."

I felt a strange pain in my head.

A memory tried to return.

A scream.

Fire.

A broken sky.

And a voice whispering:

"Don't let them find the last memory."

Then everything went black.

For the first time since I woke up...

I felt afraid.

Not because I didn't know who I was.

But because I realized something much worse.

Someone had worked very hard...

to make sure I forgot.
