The Day the Sky Wept

The rain came down in sheets, blurring the halos of the distant streetlights.

Her lungs burned like fire. She didn't dare to look back, but she could hear them-the rhythmic heavy thud of leather shoes aloshing through puddles.

Three men in immaculate black suits, thier faces obscured by shadows of the night, closing the gap with terrifying, calculated speed. The sheer momentum carried her forward, her shoes skidding violently against the slick, wet asphalt.

She burst out of the alleyways and leaped onto the crossing. She was moving too fast. The world was spinning.

Suddenly, blinding headlights cut through the downpour, illuminating the sheets of falling rain. A car tore around the corner. She tried to pull herself back, but she couldn't control her speed on the treacherous road.

A deafeaning screech of tires echoed throguh the night.

Before she could even screem, the heavy metal impacted her frame. The force of the collision threw her through the air. She hit the wet pavement hard, her heart hammered againt her ribs, the breath completely knocked from her body and she fell heavily onto the freezing ground, the rain washing over her as the world went completely dark.

For a fleeting second, she thought she saw the men in black suits stop at the edge of the alley, watching her. Then, a heavy suffocating darkness rushed in, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The rhythmic, elctornic sound was the first thing that pierced the silence.

She slowly opened her eyes, wincing immediately at the harsh, sterile white light above her. The smell of antiseptic rubbed raw against her nose. She blinked heavily, trying to clear the fog from her brain.

She wasn't on the cold, wet asphalt anymore. She was lying in a stiff be, a thin blanket pulled up to her chest, and an IV drip hooked into the back of her hand. A steady heart monitor hummed beside her.

She was in a hospital.

She was alive. But as her vision cleared, she noticed a shadow moving right outside the frosted glass of her room's door. The silhouette looked remarkably lika a man in a sharp, tailored suit.

Walker of the Dark: Short but definitely intense and amazing. Rage and Aspen were amazing together and I am glad to see a woman who is strong, determined on what she wants and well connected as a bonus. Also enjoyed seeing how even the Mafias is not all "stable" and how a bad bean can spread like wildfire if not contro...
