What is wrong with me?
Author’s Note
This story is based on my real school memories.
Some conversations have been recreated, and a few details have been changed to make the story flow better.
But every emotion, every embarrassing moment, every laugh, every tear, and every little heartbeat in these pages...
really happened to me.
So...
please don’t judge sixteen-year-old New too harshly.
She was doing her best.
After all this time, I hope this new chapter of my life becomes one I’ll always remember.
New year, new me, new classroom, new people... yet everything still feels the same.
Then one day, while our teacher was absent, I went to refill my water bottle. On my way back to class, I noticed someone talking on the balcony.
She’s cute.
That was the very first thing that came to my mind.
How had I never noticed her before?
As I walked back, I figured she had to be a senior since our classrooms were on the third floor and the second floor belonged to the seniors.
When I entered the classroom, some of my classmates were playing Truth or Dare and invited me to join. After a while, I dared one of my classmates to talk to the girl on the balcony with the short hair and glasses.
Everyone got excited and started following her, but I stayed in the classroom because I was scared she might somehow find out that I was the one who came up with the dare.
A few minutes later, they came back and told me that her name was Rain. She was a year above us and was really good at sports.
How had I been studying in this school for almost five years without ever noticing someone like her?
Then one of my classmates laughed and said, “Rain doesn’t even have short hair. She has really long hair.”
...
Oh.
That explains everything.
No wonder I never noticed her before.
We’re in an all-girls school.
From that day on, I couldn’t get her out of my head.
I wanted to know which section she was in, get to know her, see her face properly, and maybe... talk to her.
But after that day, I never saw her again.
