Just for context, this book really tested my ability to curate complex characters that reacts to the world thrusted upon them. It’s my most ambitious project yet and I’ve spent years building and experiencing moments of life that I can pour to this project. It’s also one of the most mature projects I have ever created so far.
Ultimately, this book explores themes of having the agency to choose which path to take when abandonment was the only thing that was familiar your whole life. Then suddenly, someone comes in your life and roots for you and you barely know how to accept it or not take it suspiciously. It’s about reacting to the things that you thought was a privilege but should have been the bare minimum and learning how to own that as something that you deserve.
It’s also a romantic novel, of course. Ian Bleu is a romantic novelist through and through. It’s a slow burn, it takes awhile, but the payoff is gonna be so worth it. So I hope you hang in there, or not, no pressure.
