Summary

Kayla is a quiet, smart high school student who dreams of fitting in, but every day she is targeted by three classmates—Amani, Tavara, and Alice. They bully her because she's considered a nerd and because she has a crush on one of the most popular boys in school, Marcus. Kayla believes Marcus might like her back, but she doesn't realize that he doesn't share her feelings. Instead, he humiliates her in front of other students, leaving her heartbroken and embarrassed. As the bullying gets worse, Kayla must find the courage to stand up for herself, discover who her true friends are, and learn that her worth isn't determined by what others think of her. The High School Drama is a story about bullying, heartbreak, courage, and finding the confidence to be yourself, even when the whole school seems against you.

The first day

The first day of high school was supposed to be a fresh start.

At least, that’s what Kayla kept telling herself as she stood in front of her bedroom mirror, getting ready for the first day of a new school year. She adjusted her backpack over her shoulder and looked at her reflection.

“New year. New chance,” she whispered.

Kayla had always been known as the quiet girl. She was smart, hardworking, and the type of person who would rather finish a book than be the center of attention. She loved learning, but sometimes she felt like being different made her stand out in all the wrong ways.

This year, she wanted things to change.

She wanted to make real friends. She wanted people to see her as more than just the girl who always had the right answer in class. She wanted to feel like she actually belonged.

As she walked into the kitchen, her mom smiled at her.

“Ready for your first day?” she asked.

Kayla nodded, even though she felt nervous. “I think so.”

“Remember, just be yourself,” her mom said. “That’s the best thing you can be.”

Kayla smiled and grabbed her breakfast before heading out the door.

The walk to Westbrook High felt longer than usual. The closer she got, the more nervous she became. She could hear students talking, laughing, and making plans for the year. Everyone seemed to know exactly where they belonged.

Kayla hoped she would find her place too.

But the moment she stepped through the school doors, she felt the familiar feeling of being watched.

The hallway was packed with students rushing to class. Some were reuniting with friends, some were showing off new clothes, and others were already spreading the latest gossip.

Kayla held onto her backpack straps and walked toward her locker, trying to stay unnoticed.

“Wow, look who decided to come back.”

Kayla stopped.

She already knew that voice.

She slowly turned around and saw Amani, Tavara, and Alice standing there. The three girls were smiling like they had been waiting for her to arrive.

Amani crossed her arms. “I was wondering if you would show up wearing another one of your ‘smart girl’ outfits.”

Tavara laughed. “Maybe she’s trying to impress the teachers.”

Alice looked at Kayla’s books. “Or maybe she’s just excited to spend all year studying.”

The girls laughed together.

Kayla looked down, trying not to let their words bother her.

“I have class,” she said quietly.

She turned away before they could say anything else.

As she walked down the hallway, she reminded herself not to let them ruin her first day. She had promised herself that this year would be different.

When she entered her first class, she found her seat near the window and pulled out her notebook. For a few minutes, everything felt peaceful.

Then the classroom door opened.

The room suddenly became louder.

Marcus walked in.

Kayla looked up and immediately recognized him. Everyone knew Marcus. He was one of the most popular students in school. He was confident, funny, and seemed to get along with everyone.

Kayla had always thought he was different from the others.

Maybe that was why she liked him.

She quickly looked away when she realized she had been staring. Her cheeks turned red as she pretended to focus on her notebook.

She had a small crush on Marcus, and even though she tried to hide it, a part of her wondered if he noticed her too.

Maybe he did.

Maybe this year would bring more than just new classes and new challenges.

Maybe this was the year everything would finally change.

But Kayla didn’t know that her first day of high school would be the beginning of a year filled with secrets, rumors, heartbreak, and drama.

And she was about to learn that not every person who makes you feel special has the best intentions.
