Prologue
Our parents have always said monsters aren’t real. But if that’s true, then why are the monsters under your bed now roaming the streets, destroying everything in their paths?
The day was June 23rd. Starting off a perfectly normal day, sun out, no clouds in sight, kids playing in their yards and parents talking on the porch. However, this perfect day would not last. Around noon, a sudden BOOM shook the ground in every continent. But this was no earthquake. The once clear, blue sky filled with dark, heavy clouds. Then, they came bellowing down.
They seemed to come right out of the clouds, looking like tiny versions of it with white glowing eyes, and a thirst for blood. Almost immediately after landing they went rabid. Destroying buildings, causing fires, and killing anything and anyone in their paths. An estimated 3.5 million people from all across the world died that first day from the monsters doing.
Survivors took to calling them “The Shadows”, concluding it was a fitting name for black clouds of death. Most discovered early on that you can’t kill them. No bullet or punch could touch them. In fact it would go right through their form. Also a reason why they are called what they are. Can’t fight a shadow, can you?
Most survivors of what they call “The Storm” took to safer land; less populated towns with not many people and more importantly, Shadows. However, some saw the freedom and opportunity that comes with the destruction and evacuation, and stayed in the cities. Though, it is more dangerous. Best stay away if you don’t want to be mugged or killed; by Shadows or humans.
As soon as “The Storm” broke out, people of course started to wonder, “Where did these creatures come from?” and “Why are they here?”. So they made some theories. There’s many out there but 2 are most popular. #1. A strange meteorological-magical hybrid event happened because of climate change, and now, there’s angry clouds of deadly energy here to kill us all. And #2. My personal favorite. The Shadows are minions of sorcerers that aim to take us down one death at a time. A bit of an abstract approach but, hey. If clouds killed your family too, you would go a little berserk as well.
No one really knows the shadows’ origins, These are just the most common theories. Some think there are still witches today hiding among us and we need to stay on guard.
And that rumor; is where our story starts. .
