Chapter 1 – The Man Behind The Empire

The city never truly slept.
Even after midnight, the streets remained alive beneath the glow of endless lights. Luxury cars moved through crowded avenues, expensive restaurants welcomed powerful guests, and skyscrapers reached toward the dark sky like symbols of human ambition.
To the world, this city represented success.
Money.
Influence.
Power.
But beneath the beauty was another world.
A world where promises were more dangerous than threats.
A world where loyalty could save a person…
And betrayal could destroy them.
At the center of that hidden world stood a name that people rarely spoke without lowering their voices.
DeLuca.
The DeLuca family controlled one of the largest business empires in the country. Their company owned hotels, financial institutions, shipping companies, and properties across the world.
Magazines described the owner as a brilliant businessman.
Politicians called him a valuable partner.
Investors considered him untouchable.
But those who truly knew the man behind the empire understood something different.
The world did not respect Damien DeLuca because of his wealth.
The world respected him because of his power.
And feared him because of what happened when someone challenged him.
Deep beneath the magnificent DeLuca Tower was a place that did not appear on any official records.
No cameras.
No visitors.
No public entrance.
Only those who belonged there knew it existed.
The headquarters of the DeLuca Syndicate.
Tonight, the most trusted members of the organization had been called together.
Not for business.
Not for negotiations.
But for judgment.
The heavy doors opened.
Marco Russo stepped into the underground chamber.
For fifteen years, Marco had been Damien DeLuca’s most loyal adviser.
He was calm under pressure, intelligent, and one of the few people trusted enough to stand beside Damien.
His eyes moved across the room.
Dozens of men stood silently.
Everyone knew something serious had happened.
Marco walked toward the center.
“Everyone has arrived,” Marco said.
The room became completely silent.
Every person inside the chamber understood one rule.
When Damien DeLuca entered…
Everyone listened.
No interruptions.
No excuses.
No mistakes.
Slow footsteps echoed across the marble floor.
Damien DeLuca entered the room.
He wore a perfectly fitted black suit, his expression unreadable.
He did not need to raise his voice.
He did not need to prove himself.
His presence alone changed the atmosphere.
Men who had faced danger without fear lowered their eyes.
Because they knew exactly who stood before them.
A man who had built an empire through patience, intelligence, and absolute control.
Damien stopped at the head of the room.
Silence surrounded him.
Finally, he spoke.
“Report.”
Marco stepped forward with a folder.
“We found the person responsible for the leak,” Marco said.
Damien opened the folder.
Inside were documents, photographs, and evidence.
Marco continued.
“The information sold to our enemies exposed three of our operations.”
He paused.
“Three of our men died because of it.”
The room remained silent.
Damien slowly closed the folder.
Everyone in the room knew what came next.
Inside the DeLuca Syndicate, mistakes could sometimes be forgiven.
But betrayal was different.
Betrayal was a choice.
And choices had consequences.
Marco looked toward the guards.
“Bring him in.”
The doors opened again.
This time, the entire room became colder.
A man was brought inside.
His hands were restrained.
His face showed fear.
The moment he saw Damien…
His confidence disappeared.
Adrian Cross fell to his knees.
He had served the DeLuca family for years.
He had eaten at their table.
He had been trusted with their secrets.
But tonight…
He was no longer a loyal member.
He was a traitor.
“Boss…”
His voice shook.
“Please listen to me.”
Damien looked at him without emotion.
“How long did you work for this family?” Damien asked.
Adrian swallowed.
“Ten years.”
Damien nodded slowly.
“Ten years.”
He walked closer.
“Ten years of protection.”
A pause.
“Ten years of trust.”
Another pause.
“And you sold everything.”
Adrian lowered his head.
“I was forced.”
Damien stared at him.
“Everyone says that after they are caught.”
The room remained silent.
Not because people were unsure what Damien would do.
But because they already knew.
Damien DeLuca was not feared because he was cruel.
He was feared because he was fair.
And his rules applied to everyone.
Damien turned toward the men standing around him.
“Tell him the first law.”
The soldiers answered together.
“Loyalty before everything.”
Damien looked back at Adrian.
“And the punishment for betrayal?”
The answer came immediately.
“Death.”
Adrian’s face changed.
For the first time…
He understood there was no escape.
The decision was made.
The room returned to silence.
But before Damien could leave…
Marco received a message.
His expression changed.
That alone was unusual.
Damien noticed.
“What happened?” Damien asked.
Marco walked closer.
“Something was found during the investigation.”
Damien waited.
Marco handed him an old envelope.
Inside was a photograph.
A woman.
A young child.
And around the child’s neck…
A silver necklace with a symbol Damien recognized.
A symbol he had not seen in many years.
For the first time that night…
Damien DeLuca looked surprised.
Only for a second.
But Marco noticed.
Because everyone knew one thing about Damien.
Nothing shocked him.
Nothing.
“Do you know that symbol?” Marco asked.
Damien looked at the photograph again.
His expression became cold.
“Find everything about it.”
Marco hesitated.
“Who is the girl?”
Damien placed the photograph inside his jacket.
His eyes turned toward the city above them.
“I don’t know.”
A pause.
“But someone went to great lengths to hide her.”
Far away from DeLuca Tower…
A young woman lived an ordinary life.
She had no idea that her name was connected to an old secret.
She had no idea powerful people were searching for answers.
And she had no idea that the most feared man in the city had just discovered the first clue to her existence.
Her name was Mia Valenti.
And soon…
Her entire world would change.
