Prologue: I'M HOME
"I'm home."
The words were barely louder than a whisper.
Yet to the woman standing across the street from Harrington Holdings, they carried the weight of a lifetime.
The rain had just stopped.
London glistened beneath the evening lights. Water shimmered across the streets, reflecting a city that never paused—its towering skyscrapers standing as monuments to power, ambition, and wealth.
Among them stood one name that made her chest tighten.
HARRINGTON HOLDINGS.
A sleek black luxury car rolled quietly to a stop across the street.
The chauffeur stepped out and opened the rear door.
A woman emerged.
She was tall and graceful, dressed in a charcoal coat that moved gently with the evening breeze. Confidence surrounded her like quiet armour. She wasn't the kind of woman who demanded attention.
She was the kind people noticed without understanding why.
The chauffeur inclined his head respectfully.
"We've arrived, Miss."
She acknowledged him with a slight nod.
"Thank you."
The car pulled away, leaving her alone beneath London's glittering skyline.
For a long moment...
She simply stared at the building.
Harrington Holdings.
Once, it had been more than a company.
It had been home.
She could almost hear laughter echoing through its corridors.
She remembered racing through those halls as a little girl while her father pretended he could never quite catch her.
She remembered sitting in her mother's office with crayons scattered across the floor while board meetings unfolded around her.
She remembered believing that one day she would walk through those same glass doors, not as a visitor...
But as Richard Harrington's daughter.
Back then...
Forever had seemed inevitable.
Life had promised her tomorrow.
Instead...
It had given her goodbye.
Her fingers tightened around the leather handbag resting against her side.
Inside were the few pieces of her old life she had refused to surrender.
She reached inside.
The first thing her fingers found was a faded silver friendship bracelet.
Its tiny charm had long since lost its shine.
Its meaning never had.
Two little girls.
Two best friends.
A promise they had believed nothing could ever break.
She closed her hand around it for a brief moment before placing it carefully back inside.
Then she reached deeper.
A fountain pen.
Its polished black surface bore the scratches of time, yet the inscription remained untouched.
Write your own future.
A faint smile crossed her face.
Her eighteenth birthday.
The last truly perfect evening she could remember.
Music.
Laughter.
Candles.
Her father's smile.
Her mother's embrace.
Then...
Darkness.
Twisting metal.
Shattering glass.
Silence.
She slowly opened her eyes.
The world believed Charlotte Harrington had vanished that night.
Some believed she was dead.
Others believed she had simply disappeared.
In time...
Most stopped asking.
But the woman standing across the street knew a different truth.
The girl who had once answered to that name had been left behind years ago.
What remained had been forged by loss...
Strengthened by survival...
And sustained by a promise she intended to keep.
A security guard stepped outside the building.
He noticed her standing motionless across the street.
"Excuse me, miss."
She turned.
"Were you waiting for someone?"
Her gaze drifted back to the towering headquarters.
To the company that had once belonged to her family.
To the legacy her father had built.
To the place where so many lives had quietly changed.
A faint smile touched her lips.
"No."
The guard looked puzzled.
"Then... may I ask why you're here?"
She looked at the building for one last long moment.
Then closed her fingers around the fountain pen.
Her voice was calm.
Steady.
Certain.
"I've come to finish a story that should never have been left unfinished."
Before the guard could respond, the chauffeur returned with the car.
"The car is ready, miss."
She nodded.
Then, almost to herself, she whispered once more...
"I'm home."
She stepped into the waiting car.
As it disappeared into the London night, the lights of Harrington Holdings continued to shine as though nothing had changed.
But behind those walls...
Old secrets had waited long enough.
And somewhere in the city...
A promise Richard Harrington had made years before was finally beginning to unfold.
The game was about to begin.
