To Grandpa
BACKGROUND- This poem is a tribute to my grandfather who is an epitome of hard work, wisdom and "stern exterior but loving heart" nature.
Hale and hearty despite your years,
With manners firm, slightly fierce,
You stand as an idol, glorious and vast,
Of a rosy future and a seasoned past.
Your wise words do gently enshrine,
Sage opinions and counsels fine,
That steer me through Life's weals and woes,
And teach me to bear its burly blows.
You worship work, you value time,
You look upon sloth akin to crime,
Your fiery mien is but a veil,
For a soft heart that does deeply feel.
And I pray that the Lord may you bless,
With a joyous life of scant stress,
With health and hope and years long,
And a spirit that stays always strong.
