A sudden awakening
It was evening. The dark room was filled with an eternal silence, a silence that screamed.
In the darkness, two eyes opened. A girl lay on the cold floor when she had fainted, her hand trembling at her side. Sweat trickled from her neck to her chest.
Then came a smell. Metallic. Strange.
She turned her eyes toward her hand.
Blood, It stained her white shirt and pink skirt.
Her body began to shiver. Her heartbeat echoed through the room, and in that silence every beat sounded like a threat, she had grown afraid of her own heart.
Then, something else. A sound woven into the silence and her heartbeat, far away at first, then coming closer, second by second.
Her breath quickened. Her eyes searched the room and found nothing.
Step. Step. Step.
Boots. Someone was coming closer.
She could hear everything clearly now. Too clearly. A door opened and a sudden ray of light cut across the room. Her eyes squeezed shut. Her hands flew up to cover her face, and she peeked through the gaps between her fingers to see what was happening.
Without opening her mouth, her eyes screamed.
It was a man….
