Decoding vs. Comprehension
When a child struggles with reading, it’s easy to think of it as a single problem. In reality, decoding and comprehension are different skills, and a child can struggle with one and not the other. One child may have difficulty sounding out words, while another reads fluently but retains little of what was read. Identifying and addressing the skill involved is an important part of effective dyslexia treatment.
