The Blood on the Crown
The thunder roared like a dying beast over the city skyline, but inside the abandoned glass penthouse, the only sound that mattered was the wet, desperate scraping of shoes against blood-slicked marble.
"Please... I-I didn't mean to cross the syndicate!" a middle-aged man whimpered, crawling backward on his bruised hands and knees. Blood leaked continuously from his shattered jaw, staining his ten-thousand-dollar suit. His eyes were wide, dilated with absolute, paralyzing terror as he stared up at the shadow standing right in front of him.
She didn't move. She didn't speak.
Enveloped in a tailored, midnight-black silk coat, her deep hood swallowed her features, leaving only the sharp curve of her porcelain jawline visible. Long, obsidian hair spilled over her shoulders, swaying softly with calculated elegance. She stood like a goddess of retribution—lethal, cold, and entirely untouchable.
"I'll pay it back!" the man sobbed, clutching at his bleeding chest as his back hit a dead-end glass wall. "Every dollar! Just give me twenty-four hours—"
The woman raised her right arm with fluid, terrifying precision.
In her pale, slender hand rested a matte-black customized pistol. Her grip was flawless, completely steady despite the deafening crack of thunder outside. She showed neither malice nor mercy—only a cold, mechanical detachment that proved taking a life was nothing more than an everyday chore to her.
Silence was her weapon, and tonight, it wore a crown.
CLICK.
A single, muffled thud shattered the heavy air.
A perfectly centered bullet hole bloomed right between the man’s frantic eyes. His begging ceased instantly. His body went limp, collapsing heavily onto the polished floor as a pool of dark, crimson blood expanded around him.
The mysterious woman slowly lowered her silencer. Her breathing remained rhythmic, unhurried, untouched by the brutal execution she had just delivered. Without looking back at the corpse, she turned with effortless grace and vanished into the storming darkness of the night, leaving behind nothing but the metallic scent of gunpowder and absolute, merciless judgment.
Power had a sound.
And in the shadows where true empires were built, that sound was absolute silence.
Across the city, beneath the blinding neon glare of the financial district, power took a very different shape—one made of steel, glass, and ruthless corporate greed.
The grand double doors of the Volkov Empire Group slid open with a whisper of heavy glass and chrome. Massive crystal chandeliers hung high above, casting a golden light over floors of imported marble. It was a monument to wealth, authority, and unchallenged dominance.
It was also a pressure cooker of absolute fear.
The moment those doors opened, an icy wave of tension swept across the floor. Every employee’s spine snapped straight. Heads bowed in unison, no one daring to make eye contact with the executive elevator.
"Good morning, sir," a chorus of hushed, practiced voices echoed down the hall.
Behind a cluster of computer monitors, two senior analysts kept their heads buried low, whispering under their breath in frantic tones.
"Did you hear?" one muttered, her fingers trembling over her keyboard. "The merger proposal with AN Queen’s Group was rejected again."
"What? But Mr. Volkov went to their headquarters personally this time!" the second girl gasped, her voice dropping an octave.
"It doesn't matter. No one has ever even seen the Chairwoman of AN Queen's Group. She operates like a ghost, rejecting billion-dollar deals with a single signature..."
"Do you come here to gossip, or do you come here to earn a paycheck?"
A voice, smooth as velvet and sharp as a double-edged blade, cut through the quiet air.
The temperature on the floor seemed to drop five degrees in a second.
Stepping out of the private executive elevator was a tall, imposing figure. Dressed in a flawlessly tailored black suit, his broad shoulders and commanding posture dominated the entire floor. His dark eyes held a dangerous, mocking glint—the gaze of a predator playing with his prey.
Adrian Volkov.
The sole heir to the Volkov Empire. A man known as much for his lethal intellect as his merciless handling of enemies.
"S-Sir!" Both women bowed instantly, their faces draining of color as cold sweat broke out across their necks. "We're so sorry, Mr. Volkov!"
Adrian paused, casually adjusting the platinum cufflinks at his wrists. A faint, mischievous smirk touched his lips, though his eyes remained icy. "Relax," he said smoothly, flicking his wrist in dismissal. "Where is my father?"
"H-He just entered his main office, sir," one answered hastily, pointing down the long mahogany corridor.
"Good." Adrian took two slow steps toward the hall, then stopped dead in his tracks. He turned his head slowly back toward the two terrified employees, a dark smile spreading across his face. He raised his hand and sharply snapped his fingers. "What if I mention this little act of incompetence to him?"
"Please, sir! No! It won't happen again, we swear!" they whimpered, their professional composure completely shattered.
Adrian watched their panic for a long, agonizing moment, thoroughly enjoying the complete control he held over the room. Without another word, he turned on his heel and strolled toward the corner office.
Behind the massive double doors of the executive suite sat a heavy golden nameplate resting on a slab of dark mahogany: Mikhail Volkov, Chairman.
Near the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the sprawling metropolis, Mikhail stood frozen, his face twisted in a storm of rage. He gripped his encrypted phone so tightly his knuckles turned white.
"Damn it!" Mikhail roared, slamming the call end button. In a burst of unbridled fury, he threw a heavy punch straight into the reinforced wall beside him. The muffled impact vibrated through the office. "Why? Why does AN Queen's Group keep shooting us down?!"
The heavy double doors swung open without a knock.
Adrian strolled in casually, completely unfazed by his father's breakdown. He dropped his heavy frame onto the leather couch, throwing his long legs over the marble coffee table with complete disrespect for authority.
Mikhail turned, his breathing heavy and his eyes bloodshot. "Do you ever knock? You could have called before bursting in."
"Is it necessary to call my own father?" Adrian replied, a faint, mocking curve touching his lips. He leaned forward, dropping his boots to the floor and resting his elbows on his knees. "Besides, I heard the news. AN Queen's Group rejected us again."
Mikhail’s jaw clenched so tightly his veins bulged against his neck. "Yes. Our stock prices are already taking a hit because of the public rumors. We need this partnership at any cost, Adrian. If AN Queen's Group decides to back our rivals instead, everything we built—this entire empire—collapses."
Before the tension in the room could boil over, the sharp vibration of Adrian's phone broke the heavy silence.
Adrian pulled the phone from his inner blazer jacket and glanced down at the glowing screen. Instantly, the cold, arrogant mask on his face shattered, replaced by a rare, genuinely warm smile that softened his sharp features.
Mikhail caught the sudden shift in his son's demeanor and narrowed his eyes. "Are you seeing someone?"
Adrian slid the phone smoothly back into his pocket, his expression snapping right back to a cold wall of indifference. "Yeah. I have a girlfriend."
Mikhail scoffed. "Another temporary distraction?"
"No," Adrian said softly, his voice carrying a dangerous weight. "This isn't a game of my mind, Dad. It's a game of my heart."
He stood up, smoothing down the front of his jacket. "I'm leaving now."
"Wait," Mikhail called out, his heavy voice tinged with a rare, desperate edge. He took a step toward his son. "Can you find a way to reach her? The Chairwoman of AN Queen's Group? No one in the corporate world has ever seen her face. Only her high-priced lawyers handle her affairs. I need to know who she is."
Adrian stopped at the doorway. A dark, dangerous curiosity flared in his pitch-black eyes.
AN Queen's Group...
A single corporate entity, and the mighty Volkov Empire was falling to its knees. He had never seen his father this rattled—shattered over an anonymous woman who pulled strings from the deep shadows.
Who was this mysterious queen who dared to disrespect the Volkov name?
Normally, business bored Adrian. But a hidden enemy with that much power? That just made things personal. And if there was one thing Adrian Volkov lived for... it was a lethal challenge.
"I'll look into it," Adrian replied coldly, a razor-sharp smile cutting across his face as he stepped out into the hall.
