Chapter 1: Terrible Morning

Earth - 14 July, 2003.

Monday, 06:30 AM.

New York City.

"NYC, one of the most beautiful places in the world. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, nothing could ruin such a wonderful morning..."

Boom! Crush!!

The sound explodes across the streets as a heavy-duty truck spins through the air.

Pedestrians scatter for cover.

"Everyone run for your lives!"

One man shouts as more vehicles speed through the busy highways, knocking over cars and small trucks alike.

"This happens more often than usual these days. It seems, Henry."

An old lady mutters to her husband as she arranges her flower shop.

"It's that damn menace again, Beatrice. Nothing has been the same since he showed up. If I were 30 years younger, I would give him a piece or two... (crunch) My back."

Henry mutters as he sits down, the chaos of the city a mere afterthought.

"True, but I like him."

Beatrice mutters as she continues arranging her flowers.

Elsewhere.....

Bam!!

The sound erupts through the air.

"Seriously, guys, the rules of the road exist for a reason."

A masked individual declares as he bursts out of one of the trucks, launching a man into the air before he is restrained against the wall.

The vehicles swerve and crash into nearby apartments and businesses as they take a sharp turn.

"Hey!"

The masked individual shouts, looking through the front windshield.

"You have to look left then right, not right then left. Did you learn that in nursery school, buddy?"

"F*** you!"

The driver shouts as he speeds up.

"Hey, hey, language, man. Kids are watching."

The masked individual punches through the glass, pulls him out, launching him into a building and sticking him to the wall.

"Oh no..."

The masked individual mutters as he notices the civilians up ahead.

"Not good, but at least I'll get my cardio in for today."

He mutters as he leaps onto the van, sending out dark green tendrils from his hands.

Sticking onto it and leaps from van to van, building to building, weaving them into a net as tendrils stick to every building.

"Here's the daily weather report: it's cloudy with a chance of vans!"

He states as the vehicles are caught in the net, ramming into each other before coming to a stop.

Dust and debris scatter in all directions. As the smoke and dust clear,

The masked individual jumps off the net and stands with a thunderous BOOM!!

"Gotta say, I need to improve on my art, because this isn't my best work,"

He mutters as he steps back to marvel at his handiwork, but he bumps into something small.

"Oh..."

A little girl mutters as her ice cream drops to the floor. Tears are already forming in her eyes.

"Hey, sorry about that, darling."

He reaches into his pants and pulls out his wallet, handing the little girl a 100 dollars.

"Here you go, darling. Now go and buy yourself a Sundae."

He tells her as crowds of people and the authorities arrive.

"Sorry kid, gotta jet."

He utters as he swings away.

*"Now hold on. You're probably wondering what the hell is happening. So here's the story once more."*

*"Hi, my name is Andrew Connors. And for the last 22 years. I have been this city's resident Superhero. Unbeatable. "*

*"Got my powers from a freak accident. Did a little side hustle here and there. Lost my Grandfather; that one hurt a lot."*

*"So I became a hero, saved the city, found love, lost that love."*

*"Saved the city a few more times, maybe more than needed, got married, had a kid."*

*"My life is great, I have fans, I have haters, board games, my own Christmas special. And some questionable plushies but hey, I've looked worse."*

*"But no matter how many times I get knocked down, I'll always get back up."*

*"Because the only thing standing between the city and destruction is me."*

*"Because there will only ever be one Unbeatable and that's me."*

Location: Connors Residence.

Time: 08:38 AM

The silence of the morning filled the entire house, as sunlight slipped in through the curtains.

Upstairs, barely conscious, was Grace Connors.

She had ignored her alarm for the 5th time and was about to hit a 6th.

When...

Crash!!

The window burst open as glass scattered all over the room. Grace immediately sprang out of bed and was ready to throw fists.

"What the f***! Who's there??" he declared.

"Sorry, sweetie, misjudged my landing there," Andrew said as he stood up, taking off his mask and looking around her room.

"You know, you should open your window more, get some sunlight in here," he told her.

"No, no, no, no. What did you just say?" Grace asked as she walked towards him.

"That you need to let more light in here; it's good for your skin."

"No, not that. You said you miscalculated your landing, which means you went out without me. Again, Dad!!"

She yelled at him.

"What, you were asleep when I left? Besides, aren't you supposed to be at school right now?"

Andrew asked her.

Grace wanted to speak, but she knew she could never beat her father with the advantage he currently had.

"Damn it!"

She shouted as she face-planted back onto the bed.

"Too bad."

As he started walking away, he turned and looked back at her.

He sighed deeply before speaking.

"Fine, if you get your grade up. Then maybe I'll take you on a simple routine."

"That's the same thing you said the last f***ing time."

Grace responded.

"That's because you barely passed your classes. The only subject that you got an A in was Electronics."

Grace groaned louder as she sank further into the bed.

"You promise this time?"

"...Yeah, I promise. Just get your grades up."

He told her.

"So stupid.... Fine, it's a deal."

Andrew smiled at her reply.

"Good, now get to school before you get suspended."

With that, he closed the door with a soft click.

"Stupid education."

Grace muttered as she stood up.

*"Yup, the sad sack of flesh and bone on the bed, that's me. Grace Connors."*

*"You already met my dad though, Unbeatable. Huh, I don't like doing this."*

*"My dad, who is basically untouchable with his powers, the only thing I got was a weaker version of his strength. Besides that, everything is normal... ha, that rhythms."*

*"Now look, I know I may seem a little rude, but I assure you it's all respect. I wanna do this, save the city, save lives just like he did."*

*"I know I can do this; I just have to show him that I'm ready. Is that so much to ask for?"*
