Summary

The Ocean AboveThe Ocean Above is a stunningly original and richly imagined fantasy that combines the raw intensity of aerial warfare with deeply layered character dynamics and mythological world-building. Gina is a magnetic protagonist—wounded yet unstoppable—and the narrative pulses with high-stakes conflict, poetic language, and cinematic imagery. The interplay between ghosts, dragons, and sentient machines adds philosophical depth beneath the action, inviting reflection on power, legacy, and survival. It's an ambitious, emotionally resonant saga that reads like a war hymn set in the clouds.

Preface

In Ringmar, the sky—a vast, unreachable layer of water—took a long time to be explored. Dragons, sovereigns of the clouds and wind, would attack with violent hatred any being that dared to trespass into their domain. No one had ever succeeded in slaying such beasts. And yet, despite facing enemies thirty times more intelligent than any mammal, armored in impenetrable scales and capable of striking from any direction while spewing fire, there were always those who dreamed of becoming daring adventurers and conquering the skies.

A crew of sailors was the first to brave the storm-laden pillars, reaching places where even the most advanced ships could not go. The journey was anything but easy. With sails hoisted, the crew fought relentlessly to protect their vessel. They rowed when there was no wind and used their own bodies to seal the gaps that threatened to sink the ship.

When at last they reached the calm skies—the sovereignty and peace they had long yearned for—a ruthless dragon emerged from the depths and struck. The ship was hurled into the abyss, cast back to the earth in a fall that lasted three days and two nights. Many died of hunger; others, overcome with despair, chose to end their lives. But the captain decided to leave behind a record of his knowledge in a journal.

The boat crashed into the mountains with the force of a fallen titan, transforming tragedy into a roar of splintered wood and twisted metal. It was then that the fearless protagonist of this novel, Gina, daughter of Heliúk, heard the call of the blood coursing through her veins. Assembling a crew made up of the vilest criminals and guided by the journal’s instructions, Gina declared her resolve to redeem the deadly hatred dragons bore—and to take to the skies in search of what no one had ever dared to uncover.
