Everywhere, families laughed, children chased one another with glowing rabbit lanterns, and lion dancers moved through the bustling crowd to the rhythm of beating drums.

Above the city, brilliant fireworks painted the Shanghai sky in gold and scarlet, welcoming the arrival of a new year.

For the people celebrating around them, it was simply another unforgettable Spring Festival.

For Xu Yueqing and Tang Qianyu, it would become the night that changed everything.

The two of them wandered through the crowded market with matching cups of warm milk tea in their hands, pausing every few minutes to admire a lantern display or sample another festival snack.

[SENCE :- 1| location - Yuyuan Bazaar |

[Time: Chinese New Year's Eve (Spring Festival), 2026

Setting : night market.]

Yueqing : Are you seriously buying more sweets

It's too much colories for one day

(Asked with a laugh)

[Qianyu took another bite and grinned]

Qianyu: com'on, today is new year, colories doesn't count today..

[Yueqing rolls her eyes playfully]

Qianyu: why are scolding me like my mom (Irritated)

Yueqing: ok, I won't tease you anymore!

(Chuckles)

Btw, this is exactly what you said last year

(Laughs playfully)

Qianyu : I will say this again next year also..

(Sounded sturbon)

[Walking]

[Both of them saw the wishing tree at the same time]

Qianyu: should we??

(Yueqing nods)

[They stopped in front of the wishing tree] [They wrote there wishes]

(Qianyu wrote the wish down : I hope the memories I left behind are still waiting for me somewhere.")

(Yueqing wrote down: "If I ever get another chance... I hope I won't let it slip away.")

[Yueqing smiled to herself as she tied the red ribbon to the branch...]

{The winter breeze carried her words away, and the ribbon fluttered gently among hundreds of others, as though the tree had quietly accepted her wish.}

Qianyu: DONE!"

[Qianyu clapped her hands.]

"Now the New Year has to listen."

[Yueqing laughed]

Yueqing:"Since when do wishes actually come true?"

Qianyu: "They do."

[Qianyu pointed toward the tree] "If you believe in them."

[Yueqing shook her head, smiling]

Yueqing: "I'll believe it when I see it."

Qianyu: stop overthinking, if it is meant to happen, it will (determined)

Yueqing: Are you some kind of fortunate teller,

that you are this sure..

[Qianyu Irritated, and was about to Say

something but Yueqing cut her mid word]

Yueqing: Let's go home, it's getting late

Qianyu: remember you agreed to sleepover

Yueqing: yes,yes .. I do remember, I am just

thinking what kind of food your mom made for us, I am excited!

[The two walked away, disappearing into the

lively crowd]

High above them, another wave of fireworks exploded across the Shanghai skyline, bathing Yuyuan Bazaar in gold and scarlet.]

{The camera lingered on the wishing tree}

[One ribbon lessened,It drifted slowly to the ground..]

(.No one saw it.)

[SENCE 2, LOCATION: Qianyu's house

TIME - night time]

(The front door opens. The laughter from the festival fades behind them. The house is warm and filled with the aroma of freshly made dumplings.)

Qianyu: (taking off her shoes) "Home at last... My feet are officially protesting."

Yueqing: (laughing) "That's what happens when you drag me to every single food stall in Yuyuan street market."

Qianyu: "Excuse me? Those were essential New Year traditions."

Yueqing: "Right... because buying three boxes of tanghulu is apparently a tradition now."

Qianyu: (grinning) "Don't judge me. Future me will thank present me."

Qianyu's mother walks out of the kitchen, smiling.)

Qianyu's mother: "You're finally home. Did you two enjoy yourselves?"

Qianyu: "Of course! We practically walked around

10/29

the whole market."

Yueging: "She also tried to convince me to eat another dessert."

Qianyu's mother: (chuckles) "Some things never change.

She suddenly remembers something and looks toward the coffee table.)

Qianyu's mother: "Oh, Qianyu... a package arrived for you this afternoon."

(Qianyu pauses.)

Qianyu: "A package for me?" (Both confused) Qianyu's mother: hmm, you can check it later Firstly come and eat the dumplings!!

Yueqing: sure, we are coming ....

[Looks at Qianyu]

Let's eat first!

(Qianyu nods)

[SENCE 3:- LIVING ROOM]

[Sitting infront of tv]

Qianyu: it seems so suspicious, who can send me the letter, do you know?[tilt her head]

Yueqing: how would I know that

Qianyu: I mean-

[Yueqing cuts off her words]

Yueqing: shhh! Let's just eat.

12/29

(The four of them sit around the dining table in

the living room. Steam rises from bowls of dumplings and hot soup. Outside the window, distant fireworks continue to light up the night sky.)

Qianyu's mother: (placing another plate on the table) "Eat while it's hot. I made your favorite dumplings.

Qianyu: (already reaching for one) "I've been waiting for these all night."

Yueqing: (smiling) "Didn't you say you were too full to eat anything else?"

[Qianyu glares at Yueqing]

Qianyu: (mouth full) "Festival food and Mom's dumplings don't count as the same meal."

Yueqing: you are full of yourself!

Qianyu's mother: (shaking her head with a smile)

"You two still act like high school students."

Qianyu: "That's because Yueqing is no fun. She still tells me to eat vegetables first."

Yueqing: "And somehow, after all these years, you still ignore me."

(They laugh together. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable.)

[A firework blooms outside the window, filling the room with flashes of red and gold.

For a moment, everyone looks outside in silence.]

Qianyu's mother: (softly) "Another year has passed..."

Yueqing: (smiling) "I hope this year brings something unexpected.

Qianyu: (raising her teacup) "Then let's make a toast."

(She lifts her cup toward Yueqing.)

"To another year of friendship."

Yueqing: (lifting her cup) And to celebrating Spring Festival together next year too."

Qianyu's mother: (smiling warmly) "That's a promise you should keep.

The three gently clink their cups together.)

Qianyu's mother: (placing another dumpling into

15/29

Yueqing's bowl)

"Yueqing, eat more. You've become so busy with work that you've gotten thinner."

Yueqing: (smiling politely)

Qianyu's mother: (looking between the two girls) "You know... every Spring Festival, I tell myself that maybe next year one of you will finally bring someone home

.

Qianyu: (groans dramatically) "Mom..."

Qianyu's mother: "What? I'm just saying."

[She laughs softly before continuing]

You're both in your twenties now. Your classmates are getting engaged, some are already married, and here you are, spending New

Year's Eve with each other again."

Qianyu: (pretending to be offended) "Excuse me,

Yueqing is the best New Year date I could ask for."

Yueqing: (laughing) "I'll take that as a compliment.

Qianyu's mother: (teasingly)

"I'm not saying you have to get married

tomorrow. But surely there's someone you like?"

[Qianyu immediately shakes her head]

Qianyu: "Nope."

[Her mother turns toward Yueqing] [Yueqing in deep thought]

Qianyu's mother: and you, Yueqing ? [No response from Yueqing] Yueqing!

Yueqing: huh? No, I don't have anyone..right now

[Qianyu looks Yueqing with knowing look]

Qianyu's mother: what do you mean by that?

Yueqing: nothing, I mean I wish there was

someone.. (Excuse)

Qianyu: if we are done eating, let's clean this up!

Yueqing: yes,

(Both of them gets up and starts cleaning)

[Qianyu's mom confused]

(After cleaning, the three of them sat together]

Yueqing: (remember something) what about the

parcel ??

Qianyu: oh, yes .. I totally forget about that..

Mom, where is the parcel ?

Qianyu's mother: (watching tv) in your room.

Yueqing: Let's go upstairs!

[Tang Qianyu picked up the mysterious parcel from the coffee table, turning it over in her hands.,]

Qianyu:"This is weird... I don't remember expecting anything."

[Xu Yueqing leaned in to take a closer look.]

Yueqing :"There's no sender's name... and no delivery label either."

Qianyu: (shrugged.)"Maybe someone wanted to surprise me.[She tucked the parcel under her arm and smiled.]

"Come on. Let's open it in my room."

[Yueqing nodded, and the two of them climbed the stairs together]

SENCE - 4 | QIANYU'S ROOM | NIGHT]

(Qianyu pushed open the bedroom door.)

[Yueqing stepped inside first. The room felt exactly as she remembered it-]

[warm, cozy, and filled with memories. A bookshelf stood against the wall.... fairy light glowed softly above the bed, and photographs of the two friends from school and university were pinned to a corkboard.]

[Yueqing's eyes drifted toward the window...Outside, Shanghai shimmered beneath the last fireworks of the Spring Festival She smiled]

Yueqing: "It's beautiful..." she whispered.

[Qianyu placed the parcel carefully on her study desk.]

Qianyu: it always is.

Let's get through this!

(Qianyu hands the cutter to Yueqing)

[Qianyu carefully united the faded red ribbion on the box, she lofted the lid]

[Inside the percel, there are two aged letters side by side .. one with the name xu Yueqing and the other one named tang Qianyu]

(Both looked at each other terrified, hands shaking)

Yueqing: you open first (scared)

Qianyu: no, why me? You open first!

Yueqing: then, why me ?

Qianyu : you are one year older than me ..

Let's do rock, paper, scissors!

Yueqing: its not the time to play.

Qianyu:then open yours first ..

Yueqing: Let's open it together ..(annoyed)

(they nodded.)

(Together, they broke the seals.)

{The moment the envelopes unfolded-}

[the bedroom lights flickered.]

A soft blue glow seeped from the paper, as though the ink itself had awakened.]

(The girls froze.)

Yueqing: what is this " (Yueqing whispered.)

Qianyu: how would I know this?(Irritated)

[The glow grew brighter.

The letters trembled gently in their hands.

A cold breeze swept through the room, though every window remained tightly shut.]

Qianyu: "What... is happening?" [Qianyu asked, her voice barely above a whisper.]

•Before either of them could react-

A tiny blue butterfly emerged from Yueqing's letter.

Its wings shimmered like moonlight against the darkness.

Another butterfly rose from Qianyu's letter.

Then another.

And another.

Within seconds...

[dozens of glowing blue butterflies floated into the air.

They danced silently around the bedroom,

illuminating every corner with a gentle sapphire light.]

(The fairy lights dimmed.

The room itself seemed to disappear beneath the sea of butterflies.)

(Yueqing stared in disbelief.)

Yueqing: "This... can't be real."

[Qianyu instinctively reached for Yueqing's hand.]

Qianyu: "I'm scared

Yueqing: so am I..

[The blue light became brighter...

and brighter...]

Then-
