The road was calling to me.

I could almost hear my name in the wind—the kind that still had the warmth of late summer mixed with the cool air announcing the arrival of fall.

The last year of high school.

Though we had many days before that actually happened.

The road was calling to me and I had to call my biker friends to see if they were up for a ride. The friends I bought my very first bike from. They were good people.

Too good for me.

And they knew that as well as I did. They knew I was trouble from the first time they laid eyes on me. But they sold the bike to me anyway, hoping that I wouldn’t crash it within the next hour. I had no intention of doing that because that bike was the single thing that I owned and I’d be damned if it got crashed. I’d worked too many hours just to come up with the money.

The sun was merciful after one of the hottest summers in North Texas and the wind was blowing from every direction. I should’ve worn my jacket, like Eli and Luke, but the helmet alone was making me sweat like a pig, I had no intention of soaking my body with sweat either. My hair and my face were a mess to begin with.

We stopped on a hill, overlooking the canyon. I’d brought too many girls here in the past to hook up. The view always did something to the girls. Riding up here with my bike did other things too. And lastly, my bad boy image – it wasn’t an image, that was the real me – sealed the deal every time.

But for once, all I could think about was how peaceful it was. No city sounds, clean air, and being surrounded by good people. There were no whispers in the wind or judgy looks. No past or future – just the present.

“You okay there?”

I turned my head to Eli, who I’d bought the bike from and nodded. He came beside me and started caressing my bike. I shoved his hand away. “Don’t,” I said as he chuckled.

“Damn, dude,” he said, still smiling, “You’re one possessive son of a bitch.”

I grinned. “Nobody touches my baby.”

“Well, she was mine first,” he said as Luke joined us, struggling to take off his helmet.

“Get this off of me, man, it’s fucking hot.”

While Eli helped Luke with the helmet, I wiped the surface where Eli had touched it.

They both eyed me for a second without a word but I knew what they were thinking. They thought I was getting attached to a bike that wasn’t going to be my last. They told me many times before that I was going to crash it one way or another or the bike was going to die with the RPMs I was forcing out of it.

How could I tell them that it was more than a bike to me? That bike meant freedom, ownership, belonging.

“How are you doing, man?” asked Eli, handing the helmet back to Luke.

“Ok,” I said, shrugging. Eli scoffed. “That’s a lie and we both know it.”

Maybe… But I was actually having a good day and I wasn’t going to ruin it by spilling my secrets to them. They knew too much already.

“I’ll be okay,” I corrected myself.

“We’re here, you know that,” Luke said, staring at me like I was a fragile thing.

I wanted to tell him to fuck off, to leave me alone, tell him that we were there just for a good day’s ride and nothing more – but I owed them. I owed them my life actually. They didn’t know it – probably never would – and that was the only thing that stopped me from letting the vulgar words out.

The gas tank had been warning me for the last few miles and I knew I had to fill it up unless I wanted to spend the night in the middle of nowhere. I told Eli and Luke to go without me and that we’d meet again next week or so, and turned into the nearest gas station.

I had to drag the damn bike the last few hundred yards though. I really should start thinking ahead more. I really needed to take better care of my bike.

And boy, was she hungry! I was looking at the numbers going up by the second with a frustration that was not going to go away for a while. I was literally losing money being this far from the city. That tank would’ve gone for at least a few days in the city, but here I was filling it up again.

A red two-door Mercedes convertible pulled up with hip hop music blasting from the speakers. I looked up at the driver – safe with my helmet on – and she looked so young, for a second, I thought she had stolen her mother’s car or something.

But she parked the car with ease and got out with confidence like she’d done it a thousand times before.

So, she couldn’t be that young, right?

She was wearing the tiniest jean shorts with cowboy boots. But they weren’t white. I hated those white cowboy boots that every girl in Texas seemed to own. No, hers looked expensive. The way the boots curled up at the ends told me that the leather was soft.

My eyes slowly traveled upward – spending way more time than necessary on her legs – and landed on her face. She was a natural blond – not a single strand out of place despite of driving a convertible – and she was wearing sunglasses two sizes too big for her face.

I smirked.

She was rich alright. Her outfit, her car, her attitude screamed money.

The nozzleclickedand I hastily turned my head to the pump to see the damage. I groaned loudly. I really didn’t need to spend that much money. It was a waste of hard-earned cash.

I turned on the engine and looked at the girl one last time. She was already sitting in her car, looking down at her phone, oblivious to everything around her while her tank was filling up.

Oblivious of me.

I revved the engine just to get her attention and my bike didn’t disappoint. She lifted her head and looked at me. I waited for a scoff, for a grimace – anything that a spoiled girl would do…

But she smiled.

She fucking smiled.

After blinking like a million times, I pulled out of the station and started driving back home.

I called Eleanor on my way. My rich hookup. The girl in the red convertible was out of my league but I could still have a rich girl whenever I wanted. Eleanor was the rebellious rich girl that would do anything to make her dear daddy furious. And that included having sex with the town’s bad boy.

“Hey gorgeous,” she said, walking lazily toward me, swaying her hips exaggeratedly, but my mind was not on her hips. She had the biggest boobs I’d ever had my hands on. And she was never shy showing them off.

She couldn’t hide them even if she wanted to, anyway.

I slowly got off the bike in her driveway and waited for her to come to me. I took my helmet off and glanced over at the house.

“Folks not home?”

She shook her head. “If they were, Daddy would be out here with a shotgun already,” she said smiling wide, showing her perfect white teeth.

“How much time do we have?” I asked her, putting my gloves inside my helmet. “A few hours,” she answered, putting her perfectly manicured hands on my chest.

“I’m sweaty,” I murmured but she didn’t seem to mind. “Better,” she whispered and she kissed me passionately, almost making me take her in the driveway right then and there.

We didn’t stop kissing all the way to her bedroom and she wasted no time taking her off her clothes and then mine. Her room alone was as big as the house I shared with Taj and Holden Boy.

I’d been to her room many times before – sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes during the day – but always hiding. This time, we were free, we could be as reckless and as loud as we wanted and she didn’t disappoint. She was more willing that day and boy, she let me do things to her she shouldn’t have.

I left her house with a smirk on my face, and a promise to pick her up from her school the next day. She wanted to show everyone who she was dating. But we weren’t dating, and she knew that. She just wanted everyone – mostly her parents – to know that she was hanging out with the wrong crowd.

She had everything. Money, status… It didn’t make sense to me why she was trying to sabotage her freedom by going against her parents. Hell, if I were a father, I wouldn’t want my daughter to hang out with me either. Even though she was legally an adult, just like me.

And the fact that she was getting a bit more comfortable with Taj, just didn’t sit well with me either. I knew something was brewing there, but just couldn’t pinpoint what. She was either going to sleep with Taj – or maybe she’d already done it – or knowing her kinks; she was going to offer something else. Something I wasn’t into. And hopefully Taj wasn’t into either. At least not with me.

Taj was a big Black dude who I would never want to get into a quarrel with. I definitely wouldn’t want to explore anything sexual with him. If I were to have a threesome one day, it would have to be with two girls – not a guy and a girl.

But Taj… He was open to anything. He would fuck anything with a hole, and didn’t mind getting fucked either. The sounds that came from his room most nights were almost embarrassing but also made me wonder… Because I never made those sounds while having sex. They must’ve been doing something right.

Right?
