Chapter 11:REBUILDING MY LIFE

After learning to let go, I realized that letting go was only the beginning.I could not spend the rest of my life looking back at everything that had hurt me. At some point, I had to turn around and look at the life waiting in front of me.I wanted to rebuild. Not just my circumstances, but myself.I wanted to wake up with a reason to be excited about tomorrow. I wanted to work again, earn my own money, become independent, and feel proud of the woman I was becoming. For a long time, I had allowed disappointment to make me question my abilities. When opportunities did not come, I sometimes convinced myself that maybe I was not good enough. But I started challenging those thoughts.I reminded myself of everything I had already survived.I had experienced loss. I had faced difficult seasons. I had started again more than once. If I had survived those moments, then surely I could survive another beginning.I began looking for opportunities again. Some days I found nothing.Other days I sent applications and waited for responses that never came.Waiting was difficult. There were moments when I felt discouraged and wondered whether my chance would ever come. But I decided that rejection would not become the reason I stopped trying.I also started taking my writing more seriously.Writing gave me somewhere to put the feelings I could not always explain. It allowed me to look at my experiences from a different perspective.Instead of seeing my past only as something painful, I began seeing it as part of the story that shaped me.My story.I realized that I did not have to be ashamed of where I came from or the things I had experienced.I was a girl from Biafra who had grown up, faced life, made mistakes, loved deeply, lost people, experienced disappointment, and still continued moving forward. That was something worth being proud of.I also began understanding that rebuilding my life would not happen overnight. There would be good days and difficult days. There would be moments when I felt strong and moments when I would still cry.Healing did not mean that I would never hurt again. It meant that the pain would no longer control every decision I made.I wanted to take care of myself.I wanted to improve my confidence.I wanted to find work and become financially independent.I wanted to keep writing. And I wanted to believe that there was still a beautiful future waiting for me.I did not know exactly what that future would look like. But for the first time, I was willing to build it instead of waiting for someone else to build it for me.Maybe rebuilding my life would take time.Maybe I would have to start small. But small beginnings still count. And every step forward, no matter how small, was proof that I had not given up.I was still here.I was still dreaming.I was still trying. And I was slowly becoming the woman I had always wanted to be.
