Do You Still Remember Me?
She was scrolling through her phone when a notification appeared.
A familiar name.
She paused.
It had been years since she'd last spoken to him.
She opened the message.
“Do you still remember me?”
She stared at it for a moment.
Remember?
Of course she remembered.
She remembered the day Advait had first walked into their classroom.
The new boy.
The endless arguments.
The stupid competitions over marks.
The way they somehow managed to turn almost everything into a challenge.
She remembered how, at one point, their teacher had chosen them as class monitors for their respective sections.
It sounded like a simple responsibility.
With the two of them involved, it became another competition.
Who would handle things better?
Who would get praised by the teacher?
Who would finish their responsibilities first?
Looking back, it was ridiculous.
But she remembered all of it.
She finally typed:
“Yeah.”
A few seconds later, another message appeared.
“How are you? What are you doing currently?”
She smiled faintly.
“I'm good. She told him what she is studying now. What about you?”
Advait told her what he was studying and what he'd been doing.
The conversation was simple at first.
Where were they now?
What had happened to their old classmates?
Did they still talk to anyone from school?
Slowly, the awkwardness started disappearing.
Then he sent:
“You used to be very introverted back then.”
She looked at the message.
That was oddly specific.
She typed:
“Maybe I'm still the same now.”
His reply came almost immediately.
“I thought so.”
She rolled her eyes.
“You still remember that?”
“Of course.”
She stared at the screen for a second.
Then another message arrived.
“You remember how you never used to talk during lunch?”
And suddenly, an old memory came back
