Summary

In this world life and death is centered around rank and status. Anyone with a low rank like a common security officer, farmer, clerks, street vendors, professors, etc, had to work harder to increase their status and rank to prevent themselves from being the first victims of new occuring sicknesses and viruses. Some of the only citizens who had the privilege to get the vaccines of most of the viruses were the Nurses, Soldiers, Detectives and Doctors who worked along side the government, but that came with a price… We'd have to worship the wealthy and certainly obey their every command, but at the same time watch our families die and suffer from these sicknesses with no way to help. They lied to us, told us that the wealthy died too, but that wasn't true, they always got vaccines and let the poor suffer and die… But this time, we were fed up of it all and would fight for justice till we got it. The virus outbreak began five years ago, when the most experienced scientist, Liam Hemsworth was licensed to experiment on the virus found in an isolated valley by the military. His expertise were known to fight harmful sicknesses for the poor and provide medication for each sickness promoting heath in the world.. But on this very experimentation, I had been his assistant nurse and had fallen deeply in love with the crazy scientist and maybe that was why I keep having this.....

Prologue

“Liam would have definitely broken the chains by now if only he was still alive.”

“Yes, it's certainly as if someone didn't want it to happen. Like someone doesn't want this virus outbreak to end.”

Abigail listened half absentmindedly to her fellow researches, as she continued to read the little papers that contained notes on research which were done by the past scientists that had done tones of experiments here about the vampire virus, including Sir Liam...

“I honestly feel his death wasn't a mistake, because five years ago before his death he never left this lab for any reason and focused himself totally on researching on the virus and providing a vaccine.” Raven, the detective, with a dark mysterious aura, dark hair, pointed nose, American, and one of the researches in the room pointed out.

“Abigail, you used to be close with him, I mean his assistant nurse, so I guess you should know one or two?” Alex, a solider, with a brave demeanor, African and one of the researches suddenly asked.

“And let's not forget his affection for her…” Hannah a fellow nurse, beautiful, indian, skilled, and full of smiles, chuckled.

“I'm pretty sure Abigail loved him too and that's why she was most hurt after his death and won't stop until she finds out the truth.” Hank, a chubby scientist who also worked with Sir Liam before his allerged death, said to draw Abigail's attention, but as usual she was always carefree and too serious, but still she turned around with a sign and walked towards them.

“If you all are done chit chatting we can finally have a clear discussion about this stinking virus.” She picked up a text tube and a syringe, then she dipped the syringe into the text tune to take out some of the content inside the tube, she put a needle in the mouth of the syringe and injected the rat in the cage with the content in the syringe.

It took about ten minutes for the effect of the injection to show effect and the rat began changing from his ears as it changed from normal to bat like ears making the rat look awkward. Then the color of the eyes turned pure red showing that the virus had made it's way to it's brain.

Next, the claws on the hands increased and it's teeth grew larger, sharper and longer.

It looked so intimidating but the five in the room didn't panic as they were only performing an experiment.

Abigail picked up the timer.

“Ten minutes. They turn after ten minutes.”

From on top she injects the rat with another syringe containing another substance.

They were expectant, but sadly it had no effect.

“Uh.. that's a bummer.” Hanner was the first to show her disappointment.

“Pfft..The vaccine we tried didn't even work a bit.” Alex said as he held his waist with his two hands staring at the vampire rat.

“I think we should just fight this without science since science caused this. Uhh…now one can't even go out to eat spaghetti and meatballs like old days. It's been five years already people. Five good years and nothing!!” Raven showed his clear annoyance.

“Yes…but science is all about looking closely.” Hank tried to convince, but his words only had effect in Abigail who had been watching the creature for a minute and it did just nothing.

She picked up some raw meat they had kept for the use of research and cut a little bit of it, then she used a stick to push it into the rat’s cage, and like she diagnosed in her brain. It didn't even move a little…

It was paralysed…..

The lad seemed to gain silence the minute everyone noticed it and it was clear they were getting somewhere in creating a vaccine, but they had no other resources except that of what they had used to create a vampire paralyser and not a vaccine for the virus.

Before they all could figure out a way, Raven noticed the rat breaking out of been paralysed.

“It looks like that dose doesn't last too long.”

“Uh-huh, just five minutes.” Hannah sighed.

“That means if a vampire wants to bit, you use this dose and then you have approximately five minutes to-”

“Run!” Alex interrupted Hannah's diagnosis.

“Kill it.” Abigail said to Alex.

“Okay..” Alex brought out his gun and aimed for the rat.

“Move away now everyone.” He continued and pulled the trigger when everyone had moved away.

The blood poured out thick and purple, but thankfully it didn't touch anyone.

“Gosh that was close.” Hannah signed in relief.

Abigail trashed the old gloves she had worn for the experiment and put on a new pair of gloves for the next stage, then moved to the rat's cage and picked it up after making sure it was dead.

She placed it on a slide and on a microscope, then she began to cut the body open and scanned it with the microscope.

“The body is filled with this virus now, but looks like the virus doesn't die even if the carrier dies.” She stated while Hannah took notes as she spoke.

After a while of deep search through the body of the infected rat, she finally raised her head from the microscope and toke out a little of the blood with a syringe.

“What are you doing? Alex asked in curiosity as he had since the beginning of this investigation felt behind.

“I'll drain the blood of this fellow.” She said and put the remaining parts of the rat into a polythene bag and handed it to Alex.

“Put on some gloves and take this out.”

After handing it over to him, she picked up a match and lighted fire on a stove then she put the blood of the rat from the syringe into a small iron plate.

“This should drain the blood and leave us with the virus only.”

“Abigail, you are a genius.” Hank said as he walked to her side.

Abigail smiled softly to him and turned away to concentrate on her experiment.

But their eyes suddenly turned wide open in shock the minute they found out that the virus dried and not the blood.

After the virus dried up the blood turned back to red.

“We honestly have to find Liam...” Abigail said, still staring at the blood in awe..
